MT. PLEASANT DESTINATION IMAGINATION TEAMS ADVANCE TO GLOBAL FINALS!
Mt. Pleasant students have been participating in Destination Imagination since 2011. During that time members of 19 different Mt. Pleasant DI teams, with students from 1st-12th grades, have worked together to solve open ended challenges in Scientific, Fine Arts, Improvisational, Engineering, and Rising Stars (Early Learning) categories. Our teams have consistently received top honors and special awards at regional and state competitions, with at least one team advancing to Destination Imagination Global Finals each year we've participated!
Through Destination Imagination our team members are developing the skills needed to to excel in the 21st century. While experiencing Project Based Learning through phenomenal STEAM based challenges, our team members are constantly pushed to think outside the box. DI is a learning experience like none other!
This year we competed at state tournament on April 14th and three of our Mt. Pleasant DI teams placed 1st or 2nd in the state, qualifying them to representTennessee at Destination Imagination Global Finals in May, where they will showcase their unique challenge solutions along with top performing teams from more than 15 different countries! We also had a fourth team that placed 3rd overall and brought home 1st place in their Instant Challenge, which ultimately led to their wild card advancement to Global Finals! That's right folks, Mt. Pleasant is home to FOUR 2018 Global Finalist teams!
Each year, roughly 150,000 students around the world participate in Destination Imagination, with roughly 8,000 students advancing to Global Finals. Our Mt. Pleasant teams are proud to be in that top 5-6%! We have worked hard this school year to develop our challenge solutions and we are extremely honored to have the opportunity to represent Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee and the United States on this global stage.
LOCOMOTION is a first year team of 5th graders who took 1st place in the region and state in the elementary Engineering challenge. They also brought home a 1st place win in Instant Challenge for the region. Global Finals bound!
EUREKA is comprised of 6th and 7th graders who placed 2nd in the state in the middle level Technical challenge. They also brought home a 1st place Instant Challenge win, along with a Renaissance award for their exceptional creativity. Global Finals bound!
NOGGIN SHOCK team members are 8th-11th graders and they competed in the secondary level Engineering challenge, bringing home a 1st place region win, a 3rd place state win, and a 1st place state Instant Challenge win. Their success earned them a spot in the wild card pool for Global Finals. They were selected by DI Headquarters and are officially Global Finals bound!
NOODLE FLEX team members are 8th-12th graders and competed in the secondary level Improv category. They placed 1st in the state and are Global Finals bound!
While it's an honor to qualify for Global Finals, it's also a significant financial commitment (basic registration is $775 per team member/chaperone). All of our team members must be registered and paid in full by May 1st to prevent late fees, so we have a very limited window for fundraising efforts.
