On 14 March 2019, Cyclone Idai made landfall in south east Africa nations of Mozambique, Malawi, and Zimbabwe. The impact of the storm has left many thousands without food, shelter, clothing, clean water, and other necessities of life. Mozambique’s fourth largest city, Beira, with a population of 540,00, has been 90% destroyed. As a result, the devastation is known as the worst humanitarian crisis in Mozambique’s history.
It should go without saying that the humanitarian crisis is great and aid is urgently needed. I have been able to coordinate with a compassionate sister, Jessica Mkabongo, who I know personally, in Johannesburg, South Africa that will be heading to Beria, Mozambique on 5 April 2019 to assist in relief efforts there. Originally, Jessica and I discussed shipping supplies from the U.S. to Johannesburg, however, we cannot guarantee packages will arrive in time for her to travel to Mozambique. Therefore, we are requesting those who can to donate to this campaign which will allow Jessica to purchase needed items in South Africa to take with her to Beira.
Time is not a luxury we have. Therefore, this will be a quick campaign to allow Jessica time to purchase and pack well in advance of her travel to Mozambique. We are seeking to secure $3000 USD by 31 March 2019.
Below is a list of some items we are seeking to purchase through Jessica:
