Moving the Kids to Safety

Donation protected
At the end of March we went on a vacation to visit family, upon our return we found our home was entered without any notice or communication from our landlord. Items were tossed out, moved and ruined. We lost toys that belonged to our children, food we had recently purchased out of our pantry, Our daughters art work was found in the trash outside, even personalized ornaments from a deceased relative was found and removed from the trash outside. The landlord made unfounded threats about the state of the property and the safety of our children. We immediately contacted the police and had a voluntary walk through of the premises performed validating the safety of our children and the state of the property, as well as to make a legal report. (The police did inform us that our landlord was acting illegally) We were told by our landlord to leave the premises immediately, and with the threat of our children documented we left to stay in a hotel.  We are working to move our children out fully by end of the month. We have paid first and last and do not wish to stay past what we have paid for. We have made no moves to stay in the property illegally, however the landlord is still threatening to evict through the court which would make it that much harder for us to move (with an eviction on our record). We have looked up moving costs, it is going to cost us a fortune we don't have. Some of these costs include: UHaul Trailer - $436 / 250 (for hitch set up and instillation on our vehicle) Storage (so we have a place to store some items for at least a month while we find a place we are moving into - $109 Extended stay accomodations for 2 weeks (could take longer) - $1100   *This is so that we can ensure we have time to find a place to rent when we get to our destination. We will need jobs lined up in new city in order to rent a property. My husband can transfer his job so we will have at least one job already established upon move.  Gas for move - $150 (approx) Food for family of 5 (while on the move) - $250  New household items (we are low on packing space we plan to take clothing, some furniture such as kids beds, dining table, TV's, computer, and minimum on linnens, such as a few towels, blankets and bed sheets) we will not have a couch, dishes, pots/pans etc. -$500-1500  **This will not make us whole again, it will simply help make a new place have some minimum items to make things livable and less scary for the kids.  Move in costs (deposits, first\last) - $3500-5000 Etc. We will have some of our own money, we are saving as much currently as we can in a small amount of time. Our kids ages 7, 4, 2 have come to us telling us they don't want to live in our current home (that we are being kicked out of) because their items were tampered with, tossed out, or ruined.  If you can help financially or with any advice or recommendations please let us know.  ***Please note, we have been informed by the police department that we can press criminal charges for theft and burglary on  the items we had left in our home that were missing, tossed out and/ or destroyed. We have not done this as of now, we did make a police report. The landlord of this property is my Step Father, who is illegally renting out his VA home. My little sisters also reside at this property which is why we have not placed criminal charges yet. We are trying to leave as peacefully and quickly as possible without escalating things further***
