Moving the Burnham Mansion!

Donation protected
The architect Daniel Burnham once said "Make No Little Plans" and with all other options exhausted, a BIG plan has been developed to move the historic Burnham Mansion in Champaign to a new site nearby before it would be demolished this summer.

The building is currently located at 603 W. Church Street and is one of the few remaining residential buildings by renowned architect Daniel Burnham, who is most famous for his 1909 Plan of Chicago and for overseeing the design and construction of the 1893 Columbian Exposition.

The Burnham Mansion will be relocated and rehabbed so that it can continue to be a part of the architectural and historical fabric of the community.  There has been a lot of interest in this project in recent months and we set up this page to get as much help for this challenging project as possible.

We have already raised some money for the project that will allow us to get a construction loan once the building is moved.  Money donated here will help with Phases 1 and 2, which are the immediate needs of aquiring a new lot and moving the building off the current site.
- Phase 1 - Acquire new site and excavate for basement.
- Phase 2 - Move building and construct basement.
- Phase 3 - Rehab Burnham Mansion to reopen.

Please pass this along to anyone who might be able to help.  We have a very short timeline to be able to pull off this challenging project before it is too late.  We truly appreciate anything you can do to help make this BIG plan a reality and keep this great structure out of the landfill!  Please stay tuned for exciting details related to the moving day!
