Moving Mom to CU

We are raising some funds to move my Mom (Donna) - from Decatur to Champaign-Urbana.

This will allow her to be closer to Matt (son),  friends, and rehabilitation facilities. Her current situation in Decatur is not healthy or safe for her.  Mom scrapes by on Social Security and a move like this would be almost impossible without a little assistance. We are just trying to cover first & last months rent - security deposit and other basic moving costs.

---Here is a letter that explains more details of the situation -------

On Wednesday March 14th - My Mom Donna had a stroke, She was in her house in Decatur  and was on the phone when she started experiencing slurred speech and loss of control of her left arm- she fell and hit her ribs and couldnt get up. The paramedics were called and she was taken to the hospital in Decatur - Then she was transported by helicopter to St John’s in Springfield. Once she was in Springfield they removed a 5cm clot from her brain, behind her right eye. She was temporarily paralyzed on her left side and was in the ICU. Malena came down from Chicago, and Mason drove up from Arkansas. We were there with her and worked together to get a solid plan in place for her recovery.

She was very lucky to catch it early, and because of this we hope she will not have a lot of permanent damage. Within 24 hours of of the stroke - her face drooping and slurred speech went away - and she was able to regain a lot of movement in her left arm and leg. She was moved out of ICU to a normal room at St John’s. Mason and I stayed thru the weekend as she has made a lot of improvements.

On Monday she was transferred to a rehab program in Urbana , at Provena (now called OSF) She is working with doctors and physical therapists to regain her mobility and strength. She has regained some strength and can walk on her own now. When she is done with this rehab, she will not be returning to Decatur.  We are searching for a new place in Urbana to be closer to me and other family and doctors.

Overall, things could have been a lot worse - and we are blessed that a lot of things went so well. We are looking forward to a good recovery and having Mom in a happier and healthier place. She would love to hear from any of you via FB or Calls - feel free to reach out to her. Life has a funny way of working things out - and we are hoping to make something positive out of a bad situation. - all my love and hugs to you all
