Movement Changes Kids Lives!

Tax deductible
For many years, John Seery, founder and owner of Old Mill Nurseries, Michelina Saracino, and Susan Gordon Ryan have been involved with the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County, and have seen great things accomplished on a daily basis.  The Agency has been helping individuals with disabilities since 1948.  CP Nassau is a vital resource for children and adults with disabilities and their families.

CP Nassau has an individualized activity based educational curriculum called Mobility Opportunities Via Education (MOVE). This life changing program provides a way to combine natural body mechanics with an instructional process so that students may acquire the independence necessary to sit, stand, and walk.

MOVE's Mission is to improve the overall quality of an individual's life regardless of age or disability; to provide for fuller participation at home, school, work and community environments and to promote the belief that movement is the foundation of learning that lays the cornerstone in building an individual's personal dignity.

Moms, dads, brothers, sisters and grandparents of students in the MOVE program have all made a point of telling me about the progress they notice.  Teachers and therapists who work with the students are also reporting great things that they have observed.  The students themselves are expressing how much they enjoy being part of MOVE in their own way; squeals of joy, telling us they are happy and feel good and displaying the physical signs including better posture, head control and more energy.

To fully implement MOVE, students in the program are in their own piece of adapted equipment most of the day.   Each one of the adaptive pieces, such as Gait Trainers and Hygiene Support Stations, are customized for each child and cost between $5,000 and $6,000.  It also takes skilled physical therapists and other staff to work with the students on their progress.

As a recipient of the “Harold Jay Greenberg Torch of Leadership Award”,  “The Humanitarian Award” and "The Lifetime Achievement Award", we would like to ask for your help in making this wonderful fundraising event as big as possible. If you are interested in helping us make a difference, please consider making a monetary donation of your choice. No donation is too small. If you are unable to make a donation we ask that you consider sharing this page to further help spread the word about the MOVE program!
