Why this cause means so much to me?
My name is Mia Demirovic and I am helping a young married couple (Alen and Velida Kalabic) from rural area of Maglaj, Bosnia and Herzegovina raise money for medical treatment of their two small ill children. Their four-year-old daughter Sabira has been born with the heart defect (Perimembranous Ventricular Septum Defect) and their one-year-old son Selvedin has been diagnosed with the swelling of the left kidney due to an obstruction (Hydronephrosis and Hydroureter). Their hardship personally touched me as I have a daughter of my own and I could not imagine being placed in a position to watch my child suffer from an illness and as a mom to not be able to take her pain away and even worse to not have the funds to seek treatment. I am unsure as to how I would keep my sanity and how I would remain strong and positive for my child if I were to ever face these devastating circumstances. Nevertheless, Alen and Velida have two sick children, no money for medical treatment and live in poor housing and home conditions. Their unfortunate situation truly breaks my heart and I wanted to find a way to help this family in any way I could. This is the very reason I opted to open a GoFundMe account for family Kalabic.
“The Backstory”
When Sabira was only a year old, she barely survived after having a heart surgery to patch up the hole between the right and the left ventricles. Even three years after her surgery, Sabira still endures frequent episodes of cyanosis of the lips and face (turning blue) and loss of consciousness followed by the sudden falls. The doctors suspect an additional diagnosis of either epilepsy or seizure but need to preform further diagnostic testing to be able to identify a concrete diagnosis and administer the appropriate treatment.
Sabira’s one-year-old baby brother Selvedin is also ill and should be under the care of a urologist. As a four-month-old baby, Selvedin has been hospitalized for six days as a result of acute kidney pain and vomiting. At that time, he was diagnosed with hyrdonephrosis and hydroureter of the left kidney. Basically, his left kidney was swollen resulting from the inability of the urine to drain from the kidney onto the bladder due to blockage in his urinary collecting system. This little warrior suffers from an ongoing kidney pain to this day but his family does not have the funds to ensure his treatment and provide him with some type of relief from pain.
Family Kalabic lives in an awfully deteriorated house with no water and no electricity. They share this two-bedroom house with Alen’s brother and his family. Alen and Velida with their three children (yes, they have total of 3 kids) live in one room while Alen’s brother with his family lives in the other. The family absolutely has no income at this time. Velida is a stay-at-home mom whereas Alen is able to work but struggles to find work. They currently solely depend on donations.
Why donate to this cause?
Sadly, this family does not have enough money to secure the essential necessities of daily living, let alone children’s medical treatments, prescription drugs and costs associated with travel to the hospital and stay in the capital city of Sarajevo while children are admitted for diagnostic testing and treatment. As you can imagine, not only is it emotionally draining for Alen and Velida to fight an uphill battle daily while trying their best to remain strong and optimistic for their kids, but as they watch their kids’ health decline, they are also faced with the tremendous financial struggle to say the least. The least we can do for this family is help alleviate the financial burden so Alen and Velida can shift their focus from worrying about the insufficient funds for medical treatment for their children to proceeding with treatment and providing emotional support to their two sweet little warrior angels.

Zašto mi ovaj apel za pomoć toliko znači?
Ja se zovem Mia Demirović i odlučila sam pomoći mladom bračnom paru (Alenu i Velidi Kalabić) iz okoline Maglaja, Bosne i Hercegovine. Želim putem ovog medijskog sredstva prikupiti novac za liječenje njihove dvoje male bolesne djece. Njihova četverogodišnja kćerka Sabira je rođena sa srčanim defektom (Komorski Defekt Septuma) dok je njihov jednogodišnji sin Selvedin dijagnoziran sa oticanjem lijevog bubrega zbog opstrukcije (lijevi bubreg pokazuje znake dilatiranog centralnog kompleksa I pijeloureteričnog vrata po tipu VUR-a). Nevolja koja je zadesila porodicu Kalabić me je lično pogodila jer imam kćerku i ne mogu da zamislim sebe u toj poziciji, da gledam kako moje dijete pati od bolesti i kao majka da ne mogu da joj olakšam bol i da još moram da molim za novac za njeno liječenje. Ako bih ikada bila suočena sa ovim razarajućim okolnostima, nisam sigurna kako bih zadržala zdrav razum i kako bih ostala jaka i pozitivna za svoje dijete. Ja pričam o jednom dijetetu a Alen i Velida imaju dvoje bolesne djece, nemaju novca za njihovo liječenje i žive u vrlo teškim uslovima. Surove okolnosti u kojima se nalazi ova porodica mi srce slama i željela sam da nađem način da im se pomogne. Ovo je razlog zbog kojeg sam odlučila otvoriti GoFundMe račun za porodicu Kalabić.
„Priča Porodice Kalabić“
Kada je Sabiri bilo samo godinu dana, imala je operaciju srca u kojoj je fockus bio da se zatvori rupa između desne i lijeve komore; ona je jedva je preživjela. Čak i tri godine nakon operacije, Sabira se i dalje suočava sa čestim epizodama cijanoze usana i lica (poplavi) i gubitka svijesti, koje su praćene iznenadnim padovima. Doktori sumnjaju da je u pitanju epilepsija, ali moraju obaviti dodatne dijagnostičke pretrage da bi mogli ustanoviti konkretnu dijagnozu i dati odgovarajuću terapiju.
Sabirin jednogodišnji mlađi brat Selvedin takođe je bolestan i trebao bi biti pod njegom urologa. Selvedin je kao četveromjesečna beba odležao šest dana u bolnici zbog akutnog bubrežnog bola i povraćanja. U to vrijeme mu je dijagnozirana hidronefroza i hidrouretera lijevog bubrega. U suštini, njegov lijevi bubreg je bio natečen što je bilo uzrokovano nemogućnosti uriniranja koja se pojavila kao posljedica začepljenja urinarnog sakupljajućeg sistema. Ovaj mali borac pati od kontinuiranih bolova i dan danas, ali njegovoj porodici nedostaju novčana sredstva koja bi mu obezbjedila liječenje i pružila olakšanje od bolova.
Porodica Kalabić živi u veoma trošnoj kući bez vode i struje. Oni dijele dvosobnu kuću sa Alenovim bratom i njegovom porodicom. Alen i Velida sa troje djece (da, imaju ukupno 3 djece) žive u jednoj sobi dok Alenov brat sa svojom porodicom živi u drugoj. Porodica apsolutno nema nikakvih prihoda. Velida ne moze da radi jer mora da vodi brigu o djeci a Alenu je veoma teško pronaći posao i doći do zarade. Oni trenutno zavise isključivo od donacija.
Zašto donirati?
Nažalost, ova porodica nema dovoljno novca da obezbjedi suštinske potrebe svakodnevnog života, a kamoli da pokrije liječenje za djecu, lijekove i druge troškove vezane za prevoz do bolnice i smještaj u Sarajevu dok su djeca na dijagnostičkim ispitivanjima i liječenju. Kao što možete zamisliti, Alen i Velida su opterećeni emotivnim teretom dok svakodnevno vode tesku borbu pokušavajući na najbolji način da ostanu čvrsti i optimistični za svoju djecu. Dok posmatraju njihov zdravstveni pad, takođe su suočeni sa ogromnom finansijskom borbom, u najmanju ruku.
