Financial help for Trisha & family

As healthcare professionals, we do our very best to show compassion, empathy and a high quality of care - for both patient and family.  This is what we practise day by day, caring for sick children and their families, as they face the challenge of the unknown.  When a colleague's child is admitted, though, this challenge is closer to home and it is easy to become emotional.

We are a group of Children nurses who are raising funds for Trisha and family.  We are organising series of fundraising events to help our colleague, who is experiencing uncertainty and financial difficulties.

Trisha had just turned 7 years old when she was diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL).   The nasty virus called Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) lead to this diagnosis.   She just presented after 2 weeks of not feeling well, with a spiking temperature.  Her mother,  our colleague, immediately brought her to the hospital.    A series of investigations were performed, while Trisha remained in the hospital for one week.  Sadly, the news was confirmed that Trisha was seriously ill.   The team was so sad to hear the news, it broke our hearts that a child we know, who we see often, is now going through this trauma.

Trisha now is undergoing a series of treatments to fight ALL.  We have seen how brave she is.   She remains a determined child, looking forward to getting better.

Trisha's course of treatment is not straightforward.  We have witnessed Trisha on a roller coaster ride.  She becomes unwell after her treatment and some other complications occur. We also witnessed how the whole family has been affected by the situation.  We saw how devastated the family was when she lost her hair and the reality hits them that their child is ill.

The chemo treatment will continue for at least  2 .5 years. Due to this, the family has been experiencing financial restriction and worries on how to sustain Trisha's treatment and living expenses.  Trisha's mum is not back to work, she needs to focus on making sure that Trisha will get better.

She has been struggling emotionally how to be strong for Trisha and the rest of the family.   At least we can ease a few of her concern by supporting her financially.
