<div>The story of  Mouse.

<div>Mouse is a 7 year old Italian Greyhound. I decided to let her retire and live her best life with our retired friends Gary and Diane. They were a perfect match for Mouse, as Gary and Diane have provided a loving home for another Italian Greyhound of mine, named Snow. Snow is deaf, and has been lost since the loss of her friend Ziggie.  We felt Mouse was the perfect companion for Snow (and could act as her ears!). I met up with Gary at a dog show in Virgina as it was much closer for him than coming to our house in NC to pick her up. Everything went well with the trip home and first night went well.

<div>On her second day in her new home, Mouse managed to squeeze between a 4 inch gap in porch rails and escape, breaking her front leg in the process. Being new to the area, and to Gary and Diane, Mouse had no reference to where "home" was.

<div>Frantic searches began. Local social media posts and posters were used. She was spotted 10 days later running across a road and into a fenced in yard only 1/4 mile from Gary and Diane. With all the help of friends and neighbors, they were able to catch Mouse. 
</div>

<div>Her right front leg was broken, and due to the time since the break, surgery was required using a plate/screws to set it.
</div>

<div>How Mouse was able to survive on the loose for 10 days with that broken leg is amazing! During that time, there were 3 days of temps close 100, a major wind/rain storm on the night she was caught, and coyote sightings in the area.
</div>

<div>Mouse is now happy and settling into her new home, and she is quickly adapting, but it has come at significant financial expense. Beyond the significant costs of her leg surgery, she has had a few issues (mainly related to the pain meds) that have required her to return to the veterinary office for follow up, and these costs add up very quickly! We felt this would be a good medium to help Gary and Diane offset some of these costs, as they continue to provide wonderful homes for these two sweet girls.
