We are in the process of planning and fundraising to provide a retreat for people under 50 with Metastatic Breast Cancer.
Metastatic Breast Cancer is breast cancer that has spread from the breast to other parts of the body. Common locations include the bones, lungs, brain and liver. Once breast cancer spreads it is incurable, with just 22% surviving 5 years.
This diagnosis is devastating at any age, but catastrophic for young people, and their families, thrust into an unimaginable nightmare, during what should be the pique of their adult lives.
This group of people is particularly under-served because the median age for breast cancer diagnosis is 62. Young people are disproportionately represented in the higher stages, due to a lack of screening and later diagnosis. Many are diagnosed de novo (on first diagnosis) stage 4.
See below: Stephanie was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in her 30s, with a young child. She balances difficult treatments with being a great mom.

Due to the rarity of breast cancer in this age group, those affected may have difficulty forming connections (other than online). We hope to help build and strengthen the community of young people affected by MBC, and provide an opportunity to connect, relax and reflect.
The hope is to host the retreat in Kananaskis, Alberta, in summer 2021 or 2022. The cost of 26,000 will cover food, accommodation and activities for up to 25 women and some caregivers. Extra money collected will go towards any additional retreat costs, possible travel bursaries or be donated towards metastatic breast cancer research.
Hopes are to rent the entire Lake Engadine Lodge in Kananaskis, Alberta.
Thank you in advance for any contribution you can make to help our MBC community.
his fundraiser is currently not affiliated with a specific organization but we are in communication with existing organizations about possible partnership.
