Save the Mount Moriah Cemetery Office Building

The Friends of Mount Moriah Cemetery have been working tirelessly since 2011 to maintain the cemetery grounds as well as address the research needs of families who are looking for the burial location of their loved ones and ancestors, daily.  The office building has been closed since 2011.  For nearly eight years, the Friends have not had a place to shield them from winter's cold or the heat of summer.  Yes, that means no permanent bathroom facility, either!  Those who visit this historic and hallowed ground should have an office to visit for information and assistance.  We are all volunteers and we need your help to make this happen.  



Mount Moriah Cemetery's two-story historic office building at 6201 Kingsessing Ave. was built in 1907 and is in disrepair. Since the cemetery was abandoned in 2011, the roof, gutters, and downspouts have deteriorated causing water damage to the exterior and interior of the building and has been uninhabitable. Scrappers have stolen every piece of metal out of the structure. The windows and doors have been broken in to many times, causing further harm to this lovely brick building. If nothing is done in short order the building will not be salvageable. 




This fundraiser is intended to secure funds to completely replace the roof, install new steel security doors, and to begin the process of returning the office building to a useable structure. Situated at the Kingessing Ave. gate, the office building may one day offer meeting space, shelter for our volunteers, and safe storage for the cemetery's records.

We’ve set an ambitious goal of $75,000 for this phase of restoration.


If we reach $10,000, the roof will be replaced.


If we reach $15,000, the roof drains will be installed and the downspout discharge placed


If we reach $25,000, the interior will be cleared out of all debris and thoroughly cleaned. Existing interior paint will be removed.


If we reach $35,000, the two main entry doors will be replaced with steel security doors and windows will be replaced.


If we reach $40,000, the electricity will be upgraded and water service to at least one faucet will be restored.


If we reach $55,000, new heat and air conditioning will be installed.


If we reach $65,000, the bathroom on the first floor will be rehabbed.


If we reach $75,000, second floor renovations will be completed.
