I am writing to you seeking your support,
Knife crime in the UK has been a curse to humanity for many years now and unfortunately it’s on the rise with a staggering 34,377 recorded offences in 2017, a 21% increase on 2016 and the highest number of offences since 2011
As many of you know my cousin Reagan Asbury was stabbed in Walsall last year after a brawl broke out at a local boxing event at Walsall Town Hall. Even with the amazing work of the ambulance services and Doctors at the Queens Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, Reagan’s wounds were fatal and he passed away on October 15th 2017 at the tender age of 19. Reagan was well loved and had his whole life in front of him, I will never forget the devastation & grief that this caused to my family.
Myself & my good friend Andrew Redgrave will be completing Everest Base Camp between March 16th - 31st 2018. Due to our love of mountaineering this has been paid for by ourselves and considered a holiday for us nutters! However with the events that took place and through talking to my auntie/uncle and work colleagues I decided this would also be a great opportunity to also raise money for charity.
After researching charities for a while now my chosen charity is the ‘Ben Kinsella Trust’. Similar to Reagan, Ben Kinsella was just 16 years old when he was stabbed to death in a horrific act of violence in June 2008. The Trust was set up by his immediate family to speak out about knife crime and campaign for change. Their mission is to use the powerful story of Ben to educate young people about the consequences of knife crime and also provide advice, support and guidance with the aim of raising self-esteem so that young people can resist peer pressure and make positive life choices.
It would mean a tremendous amount to me to receive your donations in Reagans memory.
Please support me with this challenge and help raise funds for such a worthy cause.
