Motorized wheelchair for Ruth

Our friend Ruth Katz has Multiple Sclerosis, and her friends and family want to help her by purchasing a motorized wheelchair. Currently, Ruth spends most of every day in bed in a nursing home in New Jersey. She was diagnosed with MS over 20 years ago, and had to enter a nursing home about 3 years ago, but could still get into a wheelchair by herself. Now, however, she can only use her right arm, so needs to be lifted into a chair and get pushed around.
Eight months ago, Ruth fell and broke her leg, then broke it again in another place a month later. The broken femur wouldn’t heal, so they took a piece of bone from her hip and put it in her leg. Then they put her in quarantine for 6 weeks while the bones fought the infection. She is finally able to sit up and get out of bed. When she gets a motorized wheelchair, she can use the joystick to motor around and not have to ask for help being pushed around. That will add a big boost to her quality of life.
Ruth was born in Brooklyn and grew up loving old movies, then got a degree in Theater Arts. She directed several plays, including some while living in Anchorage, Alaska, and did lots of costume design. She resumed her theater life in New York and New Jersey, and was a member if IATSE Union Locals 534 and 52 for many years doing props and set decorations, and dressing actors.
