MISSION : Anti-Wildlife Traficking Motorcycle Journalism.
My goal is one of action - to be a window into the world of wildlife guardianship; an authentic, independent, solo motorcycle journey of hope.
My name is Janelle. My current mission is to document the positive actions taken to honor and protect the wild, while revealing the challenges and threats the people and projects face on the front-lines of conservation in some of the most threatened ecosystems in Colombia and Ecuador.
After my objectives have been reached, I will sell my Himalayan (which I purchased with donations from this site) and donate the money to projects working to protect wildlife, the environment, and communities.

I believe that compassion is what will truly save our planet and humanity in the end. I believe that we are inextricably connected to the earth, the animals, and each other, and that WE ARE ALL TRULY WILD.
I feel that traveling solo on a motorcycle is a compelling way to tell a story about why protecting the wild places on earth honors the innate wild within.

Some of my greatest lessons have come from not having; from being hungry and eyeing the leftover food on strangers' plates, walking because I don't have the money for transportation fares, and crafting because I can't afford what is new.
I hope that all can feel the gratitude I've felt for a bed, for protective clothes, for clean water, for nourishing food, for education, for a refreshing shower, a warm embrace, and loving touch. So often it is only when these things are removed from our lives that we begin to realize their value.
I feel humble in my existence and do not desire to own many things.
It is my choice to own less and live more...
The truth is - I have struggled. With most of my money tied up in a motorcycle, I've had to forego comfort, safety, and my health in order to get by.
WHY? : Wildlife Trafficking is not only driving wild plants and animals to extinction, but also has devastating effects on sustainable social & economic development, (inter)national security, and global health.
The illicit wildlife trade has become very big business —
a $19 - $23 billion dollar a year industry, run by international organized crime syndicates — often the same people responsible for trafficking guns, drugs and people.
FIGHTING WILDLIFE CRIME IS ABOUT MORE THAN JUST SAVING ANIMALS.
Children and future generations are losing their birthright and natural heritage, as well as the ability to manage those resources in a sustainable way to the illegal trade.
WHO? : With an academic background in Biology and 5+ years in SE Asia, living on a motorcycle in and around Laos, I’ve been working to: elevate awareness of wildlife trafficking on the ground and beyond, promote biophilia in remote and vulnerable villages, explore sustainable solutions to safeguard our planet (like alternative livelihoods for ex-poachers), and share photos and stories from the vantage point of my motorcycle.

MY GOAL IS TO SHARE AN AUTHENTIC JOURNEY OF HOPE. My name is Janelle. I’m a female traveling solo on a motorcycle and care to be a window into the world of wildlife guardianship. My objective is to showcase the positive actions taken to honor and protect the wild, while revealing the challenges and threats the people and projects face on the front-lines of conservation, in some of the most threatened ecosystems in Colombia and Ecuador.
WHAT? : Anti-Wildlife Trafficking Motorcycle Journalism
By promoting the positive actions taken to protect the ecosystems and the people + animals who depend on them, more eyes and attention on particular projects will bring more aid and potential funding to their efforts.
It is essential to focus on the effective initiatives and technologies in the fight against wildlife crime so that they may be implemented elsewhere.
HOW ? : Key collaborations and partnerships with individuals and organizations on the ground in both Colombia and Ecuador. I'll be visiting wildlife conservation projects, anti-trafficking groups, biological research stations, and universities.
CURRENTLY:
"New peace brings hope to save the wild lands of Colombia. "
After 52 years of war, Colombia is regaining control of large biologically rich tracts of land that previously had been war zones - havens for armed rebel guerrillas.
Scientists are now racing to create plans for conservation and sustainable development to head off an influx of illegal loggers, miners, and poachers.
Although the guerillas caused environmental damage by destroying forests for drug production and blowing up oil and gas pipelines, their presence also protected large swaths of forest from development.
Much is riding on the post-conflict efforts to protect Colombia’s forests and wild lands while sustainably developing its natural resources.
The children in these remote communities now have real dreams of building their future.
The US has played a substantial role in where Colombia is NOW. It is our duty to ensure that some of the most biologically rich and diverse lands in the world are protected and sustainable ventures are pursued.
