March Of The Mermaids 2019

Donation protected
March of the Mermaids is back! And this year in our growing commitment to help save our oceans, we are delighted to announce that we will be raising money for THREE amazing causes: Surfers Against Sewage, Marine Conservation Society and Sea Shepherd UK.

Surfers Against Sewage - www.sas.org.uk
SAS are a community dedicated to the protection of oceans, waves, beaches and wildlife. They fight long and hard to protect what we all love and won’t stop until it’s completely clean, safe and protected for everyone, forever. Just 12 of then work in the office, but it’s really thanks to people like you who support their work through memberships, volunteering, signing petitions, buying from theirshop and spreading the word that allows their impact to be widely felt.

Marine Conservation Society - www.mcsuk.org
Too much is being taken out and too much is being put into our seas. MCS's scientists, campaigners, volunteers, advocates, data experts, fundraisers, divers and researchers are all passionate about creating a sustainable future for our seas. Their goals and ongoing successes are to drive political, cultural and social change for healthy seas and coasts that support abundant marine wildlife, sustainable livelihoods and enjoyment for all.

Sea Shepherd UK - www.seashepherd.org.uk
SSUK  is a registered charity whose primary mission is to end the destruction of habitats and illegal killing of wildlife around the UK's coastline and across the world’s oceans in order to conserve and protect marine ecosystems and species. By safeguarding the biodiversity of our delicately balanced oceanic ecosystems, Sea Shepherd UK works to ensure their survival for future generations.

WHO ARE WE?

March of the Mermaids is the first event of its kind in the UK, created in 2012 and inspired by the Coney Island Mermaid Parade in New York. Throughout the year, we organise beach cleans, fundraising events and an annual parade in Brighton, UK, as a celebration of our seas and sea life, raising awareness of marine conservation issues and supporting associated campaigns and charities.

With a brand new team at the helm, we are set to make this year the most powerful, influential and rewarding year yet. We will be bigger, bolder and louder than ever as we fight to make our seas cleaner, our beaches safer and speak out for the ocean creatures who cannot speak for themselves.

YOUR DONATIONS

This is where you come in... Firstly, thank you so much for taking the time to read our mission and hear our story.

The MotM volunteer committee are working hard to expand our reach with more frequent and wide-spread beach cleans, media and TV coverage, a major fundraising event (27th April) and the most impactful march along on Brighton seafront (July 13th) to ensure that our chosen charities get the exposure they deserve and as many contributions as possible.

Your donations will also to help cover our (minimal) costs to organise, market and advertise the parade, which will help generate as much awareness and funds to our chosen cause as possible!

We know that these are hard times, but even just a small donation of £2-3 goes an incredibly long way to helping shape the futuere of our seafronts and every donation we receive is extremely appreciated. From the bottom of our little hearts, THANK YOU!

HOW ARE WE RAISING FUNDS?

We have had an incredible response to our call for volunteers for a monthly beach clean, and our little eco-warriors will be keeping our beaches clean, talking to the public and collecting money.

Our fin-raiser is set to be the most exciting yet as we have an fun, action-packed day planned with all proceeds going directly to our three causes, including:

- Mermaid meet-and-greet
- Aquatic face painting, hair and make up
- Sustainable nautical product stalls
- Raffle with gifts/prizes from local businesses
- Recycled street art auction
- Mermaid Wedding Ceremonies (Incl. certificate and photo)
- Entertainment and performers
- Sea-themed cocktails
- Live bands
- DJ & Dancing into the night
- And much more!

Alongside this, we have some exciting and creative workshops planned throughout the year and we can't wait to share these details with you soon!

THE PARADE

Overe the last few years, we have seen over 10,000 mermaids, merman and all manner of sea creatures walk, dance, chant and drum their way along the Brighton seafront to help spread the word of cleaner seas and protecting our precious marine life.

In 2019, we are hoping to double our exposure work extra hard to publicise the parade and after parrty through social media platforms, sponsorship and marketing/advertising. Your donations will also help us maximise our reach, and make this year the largest, lpudest and most successful March of the Mermaids yet.
