Please help save our mom

Our mother (Shameem Navrozally) who is a cancer survivor contracted Covid in December 2022 (she was fully vaccinated with four vaccines). The Covid worsened and since January 2023, she has been on heavy oxygen at home. Despite being on oxygen and medication, her oxygen level was reaching below 80 and below 70 some days, which is considered critical in medical terms.

Since mid-January, she has been hospitalised and CT Scans showed Covid ARDS (Acute Respiratory Disorder Syndrome) and suspected PCP (Pneumocystis Pneumonia). She was on oxygen and intensive care for a few weeks. Although she was in good spirits initially as there were physical signs of recovery (she was chatting/interacting with us), the situation has worsened in the past week. Based on Doctor's recommendation we had to make the difficult decision to put her on ventilation and the doctors have advised an extended recovery time. They have tried all routine medication and now using an alternative form of medication to hope for a recovery.

The cost of ventilation only is around GBP1,000 (PKR300,000) per day. This is in addition to a daily estimated ICU care and medical charge GBP 775 (PKR240,000). We have already accumulated medical bills of around GBP8,000 which has been paid. There is a significant longer term cost subsequent to her discharge from the hospital as she will require full time nursing care and oxygen - doctors have said some patients need it for 2 years and some for a lifetime.

She is financially dependent on her two children (Narmeen and Zahir) who have spent over GBP45,000 in the just the last two years on other treatments (including cancer which she successfully fought). To assist us further, we have applied for a bursary through the hospital as well.

Her situation is critical and we are unable to move her to any other place such as a public hospital in the current condition. We therefore humbly ask for any contributions that could assist us through this difficult period.

We will return all monies collected through this platform to save our mother, through contributions to various charities as soon as we are in a position to do so.
