I'm the mother of Joe Strandberg AKA (Joey, JoJo, Joseph). My name is Bonnie Bross.
- Unfortunately, my son Joey went into DKA due to having diabetes (which also caused him to have a heart attack) on Sunday, the 24th, 2024, at 6:34 pm. I placed an emergency call for help. When the ambulance arrived, they did not bring in a stretcher nor any type of equipment. I asked them where the stretcher was. I did not receive an answer. My poor son Joey was lying on the living room floor, very weak and unable to move. The two EMTs each grabbed him by an arm and walked him down 8 stairs along the sidewalk to the ambulance that was parked in front of the neighbor's house. They then leaned him against the ambulance as they were looking for things. I have cameras, and it shows everything; it is also time-stamped. Ten minutes went by, and I finally went out and asked what was taking so long. One of the EMTs was frantically searching through a crate looking for something. When I asked what was going on, I was then told my son was not breathing. The door was closed, and finally, a fire truck showed up with paramedics. That took quite a while for them to arrive. The two paramedics went to the ambulance, with one of them carrying something. They were inside the ambulance for quite a while. They eventually got out of the ambulance. One paramedic stayed with the ambulance while one of the EMTs drove the ambulance. The other paramedic went back to the fire truck. The time that they had showed up to my house to the time that they left my house was a little over 18 minutes. I followed shortly after. When I arrived at the main hospital in Dearborn, Michigan, the ambulance had just arrived. When I asked if my son was breathing, one of the EMTs told me he was inside the emergency room and they were breathing for him. Because of the EMTs not having the correct tools that are life-saving and the paramedics not following right behind the EMTs, they were never able to revive him. It was up to the emergency room doctors and nurses to try to get him breathing again. His downtime was over 40 to 60 minutes with no oxygen. If anyone knows my son, they know how intelligent he is; he has a very high IQ. At no fault to the ER team, it took another 20 to 25 minutes or more to revive him. Because of that, he again was without oxygen. Finally, he was stabilized and moved into a room. After all my prayers, tears, and waiting, my beautiful, loving, kind son was pronounced brain dead. No parent should see their child leave this earth before themselves. He is only 39 years of age. He left the job he had worked for close to 15 years that he really enjoyed and loved performing. Only because the job had made him stationary and for most of the time, it could be stressful. He had always planned on going back one day, once he was able to get his diabetes under control. Because he had no insurance in the beginning, I was helping him along financially and more than happy to do so, being his mother. As time went on, he kept feeling worse. So, as any parent who loves her child no matter what age, I helped him with whatever he needed. This happened so unexpectedly; it has torn my heart apart. It has left me finding myself without the funds needed to give him not only the burial that he
- deserves but even a decent burial. That is why I'm reaching out to each and every one of you in hopes that anything that you could spare, I would truly appreciate it to help my one and only son to rest comfortably in peace. Thank you. Hug your children each day and enjoy the time you have with them. We have no family due to not following the way of life that they all have chosen to live. As of now, I can only afford having him cremated and placed in an urn without any type of service. Being Roman Catholic, they have now allowed cremation, but his remains must be buried. I feel embarrassed asking for funds that anyone can afford to help me. He is my shining light, and I don't know how I'm going to make it without him.
