Mother's Breast Cancer Fund

In December 2016 my mother, Michelle, was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was unexpected and devastating news. Along with the emotional toll, this would end up taking a significant financial toll on us as well. For the past few years, my mother has only been able to find part-time employment, so could only afford to pay so much for her treatments. The out-of-pocket costs for all of her cancer treatments and doctor visits from then on have been substantial. Her income gave her enough to allow her to pay her other day-to-day bills, but left her with very little afterwards. This meant coming to ask me to help pay for a good chunk of her medical expenses. At the time, I was in a reasonably decent place with my finances, so paying for her treatments was doable for me. 

Things continued on like this for several months up until this past November, though her condition had not been improving at the rate we were hoping. The time came where she needed a double mastectomy. The surgery, along with the ongoing chemotherapy treatments, meant she needed a lot of time to recover, and as a result would be unable to work at all. It also meant paying a lot for her surgery, which left a huge dent in both our wallets. From then on until now, I have been responsible for taking care of much of my mother's bills, as well as my own. But now it's reached the point where it's becoming a struggle for the both of us.
