Mother Stuff

This Go-Fund-Me account is for Laura Lenk, known around the Brainerd Lakes Area as the "Cake Lady", know to myself, my 2 brothers, 1 sister and our friends as MOM. Before getting sick, she was an extremely busy, athletic and independent woman. She worked full time at Cub Foods as the manager of the bakery department, as well as the top cake decorator. She worked out everyday and whenever the roads were clear (warm or cold) she was out on her Harley going wherever the road would take her. Her whole life as a kid to an adolescent has been trips to the Dr. and hospital stays for her scoliosis, her spine is fused to a metal rod but she never let that stop her from living her life. This past year, that has all changed. It started with a hospital stay from a collapsed lung. From there, things continued to decline. After several emergency room visits and trying different medication, she was able to get into the mayo clinic to get to the bottom of what was going on, which ended up being Scleroderma. It is an autoimmune disease and in our mom's case, is extremely aggressive. Because of this, she is in a constant state of pain and is unable to do everyday activities such as doing the dishes, using the stairs or even showering. More recently, she was admitted into the mayo clinic for extremely high blood pressure, unbearable pain, and excessive loss of blood. She received multiple blood infusions and is now on dialysis as they found out she has acute kidney failure. Thankfully she is at home now after her 2 week stay in Rochester, MN. and has started making trips to the St. Cloud Hospital three times a week for dialysis. She is in the process of trying to sell her house and her Harley, as well as the next steps from the inability to work. We are starting this account in hopes to help her with the everyday anxiety and stress of everyday bills stacking up from lack of income, mounting hospital bills and just her everyday needs.
