What are we raising funds for?

I'm raising funds for La Toyia Smith, a 42-year-old mother of two who is battling two types of cancer. Because of her illness, she had to leave her job to undergo treatment. She applied for emergency assistance through the township trustee's office. They denied her—knowing she has just 8 days before she loses her home.

I've seen a lot of hard cases. This one I couldn't walk away from.

La Toyia will be homeless in 8 days—while fighting cancer, while raising a 16-year-old daughter, while trying to survive. The system that was supposed to help her said no. I'm asking you to say "Yes."

Here's what La Toyia is facing:

She's 40 years old. A devoted mother. She did everything right—she worked, she provided, she showed up for her kids. Then came the cancer diagnosis. Not one. Two.

To fight for her life, she had to leave her job. There was no choice. Cancer doesn't pause for bills. It doesn't care about rent.

So she did what anyone would do. She reached out for help. She applied for emergency assistance through the township trustee's office. She explained her situation. She answered their questions. She followed their process. And they said no.

They knew she had 8 days before eviction. They knew she was in active treatment. They knew she had a 16-year-old daughter depending on her. And they said no. That's what I couldn't walk away from.
