“Never look down on anyone unless you are helping them up."  Jesse Jackson
Moses during his time at the new Hope of Life Orphanage
(Through God's Grace and Favor this Orphanage is NOW a huge ministry!)

The Back Story:
Moses Emmanuel spent the first two days of his life naked and alone abandoned by a rural river in Guatemala. He was discovered by local farmers. When he was examined by medical staff, he was thought to be two days old. Moses was brought to a new, sparsely equipped orphanage in Zaccapa, Guatemala, where a young man and his wife were Directors of the facility. That young man began telling his parents about Moses who had medical and sight difficulties. Later a video was sent to the young man’s mother who said, “God put it clearly on her heart that this precious baby was to be brought home to the States and become their second son and fourth child.” The adoption process was expensive, long, and very difficult. Moses was three when his parents, who were then 50 and 51, were able to finally get him home. He had miraculously survived on a bottle of powdered milk and had never eaten a bite of food. He couldn’t even roll over or crawl.

Update:
Moses’ diagnoses is cerebral palsy, developmental delay & cortical impairment yet he is a Super Star! He must use a wheelchair at school & public outings. However, with his determination and invincible spirit, he manages to crawl around and climb unto chairs and beds one-armed dragging his legs by himself. He is non-verbal but has an amazing memory and vocabulary. He uses a keyboard very efficiently and fast, and
communicates with an iPad. He is great at math, art, and spelling.  Moses is very warm, affectionate and loving. His smile lights up every room!                                                     Legs that cross & quiver involuntarily. One arm and hand that functions adaquately, and vision that distorts .. You must see Moses in action ...
The invinsible spirit and fearless determination! View this video to be amazed.

The Need and Why:
Moses’ father
, a former Chrysler Corporate Pilot who had also flown some angel flights, had a heart attack. A
few years after Moses came home from Guatemala, his father’s health further deteriorated and he had to go
on early disability due to several medical issues. At this point he is in end stage congestive heart failure.
Moses’ mother worked for schools directing programs that instilled the value of volunteer service throughout
the communities that involved proms, celebration dinners for senior citizens, fun social events for special
needs young people, food banks, working with homeless shelters and mentoring. This year she broke her right shoulder and arm in three places. They’ve worked hard
throughout their lives raising their 3 biological  children and dedicating their lives to volunteer and community service, but the years of insurance & medical cost have often overwhelmed the family. With both parents situations, it's been very difficult for them to continue the transfer from wheelchair to car then more lifting an inadequate folding wheelchair into the trunk. At this point Moses mother has to do it on her own. Any outing can involve six to eight plus lifts.
Moses and his parents are now in desperate need of a Conversion Lift Van.  Moses is currently fourteen and this need is great. His parent’s hope is the purchase of a new van and with proper maintenance, it could last him a lifetime!

TESTIMONIES CONCERNING MOSES EMMANUEL:

"Moses Emmanuel, Your parents were very wise to call you Moses! A name like this told me you were a special young man. We have shared many laughs and great times as we both grew in this journey of your education. I have learned so much from watching your love to learn, determination and sweet spirit! Who knew Moses, that you were The Teacher!”   Mrs. Way, Moses Para/Teacher for 5 years

"We have known Rick & Toni Jakubowskis since early 2000's. We realized soon these dear people are full of love and compassion for people of all walks of life, especially those in need. This passion passed on to the their children. Their first born, Rick, went as a missionary to direct an orphanage. A baby was found abandoned by a river, in serious physical need.  Toni's heart was so full of love & compassion, she personally paid for an attendee & physical help for Moses endeavoring to help. Then finally they were able to adopt him. In a sharing time with Toni, I told her God sent her oldest son to rescue her second son, Moses. Moses may have physical limitations but a very brilliant mind. We have had the joy of staying in their home, thus close-hand observation. Anything that anyone would donate to this cause would be blessed by God! Moses was rescued for a time and ministry that has no ending."

”Sadly today was my last day seeing Moses at school :( I will miss this little guy soo much! The joy he has nothing can take away and seeing his smile was the highlight of my day!! God has used this family to change my life. I will definitely stay in touch with this family and Moses throughout my life and I cannot wait to see how God is going to use this little boy to change more lives! :) I will never forget this year and all the time I spent with Moses! “

Moses BIG LOVING FAMILY, Moses 3 siblings & their spouses and 'Uncle Moses eight nieces & nephews ...
Moses major hip surgery, several pins and plates, then after finally getting home he developed a major open wound under the big cast and had to go back in the hospital and have that attended to.
Second night out from this major surgery Moses who had only written words on his iPad wrote this moving and amazing sentence to his Mom!

“We’ve heard everything from ‘Why would you do this, to your amazing people to do this after raising three biological children. Teachers have said you’ve done an increadable job raising Moses. But, we know the truth is his determination simply amazes, legs that involuntarily cross and quiver, only one hand that functions properly, and vision that distorts. Then spending the first three years mostly alone in a crib & living on a bottle of powdered milk. He simply never gives up! He uses his gift of perseverance and creative thinking to accomplish things most say he never could. His spirit soars, his smile dazzles. It is our lives that have been so profoundly impacted, inspired, and blessed. It truly is one of the biggest challenges and riches blessings God bestowed on us! Becoming Moses parents has been our great privilege. Moses is our daily miracle and living hero!” Moses Mother
