Did you know we have three Superstition Mountain staff members from Puerto Rico?
Morayma Reyes Ocasio (Mory) has worked in spa services at the club for several years. Daisy White has been a server at the Club for almost two years, and Daisy’s son Anthony just joined the team in facilities maintenance. Both their families and their communities have been devastated by the recent hurricane.
Mory has set up her home to be a Red Cross drop point for donations and supplies, and she’s been helping others connect with loved ones through social media. Mory’s parents lost their home and farm to the hurricane. Mory describes the situation as: “Devastating and desperate. My parents are physically and emotionally drained…trying to survive, looking for water, food, with no power and no connection to understand what’s going on. My mom walked 6 hours to be able to get cell coverage to call me. It was a relief. But, also more stressful, knowing everything they have to do. They have nothing left and no jobs because the farm is gone.”
Daisy just recently connected with her mother, after almost two weeks of not knowing her whereabouts. Daisy says her mother is now reunited with her 87-yr-old grandmother, but they are on the 16th floor of a building with only 3 days’ worth of food and water. She says “there are long lines for supplies and her grandmother is too frail to walk up and down 16 flights, and they will only give supplies for the person in line.”
Mory and Daisy have come to find out that their families live only 10 miles apart and that they know each other!
This Go Fund Me account has been set up to assist Mory’s & Daisy’s families and their communities in Puerto Rico. The need is great and through their connections they are able to focus the assistance.
