Fund Morgan's Frankenknee!

What?!:
I am having knee surgery (again!), even though I have no money for it!

Why?!
No, I haven't come down with a case of Munchausen or converted to masochism. Though both those options sound promising.

In August of 2011, after 8 years of walking on a knee that was busted because drunk driver (not me! I wish!) car crash caused me to develop a limp, I had a microfracture which failed to correct the problem.

So where before I had a knee with damaged cartilage, I now have a knee with a pothole (technical term) under the knee cap which causes my poor knee cap to catch and grind upon said pothole, creating a wicked mother of an owie (also a technical term).

Never one to be thwarted I tried non-surgical options (shots, acupuncture, Pilates, etc) but lefty (that's what I call my injured knee - cute right?) just couldn't get with the program so I leaned harder on righty til he looked at me one day and said, "I can't do it, Captain! I just don't have the power!" (True story) I should have known something was up when my knee started to look like this.

How?!
I brought me case to Dr. Strauss at the NYU Center for Musculoskeletal Diseases and he is going to give me a fancy (half) new FRANKENKNEE*! That's right, once we get a tissue match, I'm gonna have a dead person's bits all up in my pothole! (This is where you can feel extra good if you're a tissue or organ donor because you are already helping support the frankenknees of the future!)

Financial Transparency/Where will my money go?!
I have insurance (YAY!) which means I have an out-of pocket per calendar year maximum of $3,500 (THANK GAWD) but till I hit that I have large co-pays and something mighty confounding called a "co-insurance." For example, I had an MRI, for which NYU billed Cigna $5,780. Cigna, in turn, billed me $1,956 (!!!!). This includes my $250 co-pay, a $750 deductible and a 20% co-insurance ($956).

This is why we are trying to raise $3,780 which will cover the out-of-pocket max after the gofundme takes their 8% cut.

Anything raised over the goal will be used for things not included in that (e.g. prescriptions), car service to physical therapy when I'm not able to take the subway, "non-traditional" healing treatments (e.g. chiropractor, acupuncturist) and assistance items (e.g. canes, crutch buddies).

*Osteochondral Autograft Transplant (OATS)

P.S. If you aren't able to contribute financially at this time, words of encouragement are of equal importance to me. I keep trying to get my doc on board with this, but as many times as I give him the thumbs up and tell him he rocks, he keeps sending me bills! RUDE!
