This event's organizer, Amy Liu, is fundraising for the Bailey family, whose daughter, Sarah, lost her eyesight due to the burns from a serious car accident. Sarah is 7 years old; she was adopted just 2 short years ago by two loving parents, yet her life has been transformed forever. Life without eyesight calls for many large scale changes. The cost of education for the blind community is astronomical; such obstacles have led braille literacy to drop dramatically. Braille books cost more than many college textbooks, and there is little reading material compared to that of traditionally printed books. To provide perspective, braille paper stacks alone cost at least $50 per stack. A braille typewriter, which is the ultimate goal, costs at least $1,100-$1,300. Therefore, the money obtained from this fundraiser will help Sarah's family obtain money to purchase braille books, reading materials, and buy a braille typewriter to further her education and stimulate her mind. The money from this fundraiser will widen Sarah's access to the education she deserves.
