More Than a Scooter

My friend Martin could use a helping hand. He's a neighbor, rides to church with me and Joyce every Sunday, and just graduated from Jobs for Life. He's bright, friendly, funny, and hard-working. But Martin is unemployed because he doesn't have transportation.
He bought an old used scooter but it didn't last long. The scooter store told him on the phone it would cost $150 to repair. So I helped him get it there and they told us it could cost $250. Then they called and said $585, then $650, then "you probably just want to buy one of our new ones for $900." So we picked it up and hauled it back home.
Martin didn't ask for help but I'd like to help him buy a new scooter--though probably somewhere else. :) Anybody else care to pitch in a few dollars? Any amount is appreciated.
