Who we are

We are an after school community center, The Center for the Acquisition of Academic Competencies for the Future (CACEFU), which is based in Alto Molócue, Zambézia Province. The main goal of the school is to provide motivated students in Alto Molócue town with extra academic classes, musical instrument instruction, extracurricular activities, and more with the hope of assisting these students in obtaining admission and financial aid to study in the English speaking world, as well as in Mozambican public universities.

Our vision is to be the leader in training students outside of their normal education as proven by our success rate in student acceptance to top universities abroad as well as in Mozambique.

Our mission is to ensure that the students acquire the values, abilities, and skills they need to be admitted by both foreign universities as well as public universities in Mozambique and that
these students use the knowledge they have gained to contribute to the development of their communities and their country as a whole.

Proposed Activities

The Center for the Acquisition of Academic Competencies for the Future (CACEFU) intends to offer extracurricular classes for students in the following subject areas:

1. *English;
2. *Math;
3. *Portuguese;
4. *Social Sciences;
5. Music, including but not limited to the instruction of piano, percussion, saxophone, and guitar;
6. Computers.

* Designates a principal subject area at CACEFU

Outside of these principal subject areas, we will offer classes in supplementary subjects when necessary.

With the realization of this project, we hope to:

I. Provide a greater and more productive use of students' free time (after their normal classes at the public school);

II. Ensure the students are familiar with the exams required for admission to university in Mozambique and around the world, the offered programs of study, requirements for these programs, the application process, and scholarship opportunities that are available to them (and their requirements).

III. Inspire and develop the students' individual talents not just in terms of academics but also in terms of musical instrument abilities (which could be an advantage for our students who intend to pursue a degree in Music);

IV. Provide the students with the skills and abilities necessary to succeed in the admissions exams for universities within Mozambique and abroad.

Target Group

The target group of the project is all students in primary and secondary public schools that know how to read, write, and perform basic math calculations. We are also providing literacy classes to students who do not read, write and do perform basic math so that they can get access to the long-term training at CACEFU right after they have acquired these skills.

How the funds will be distributed

Start of Activities

Activities at CACEFU began in February of 2018 and, at this moment, the center has 20 students enrolled. The English classes are taught by American teachers from the Peace Corps who work in Alto Molócuè, while other subjects are taught by Mozambicans. The center rents a building for its activities while we look for partners and resource in order to construct our own building.

Please, help us get more musical instruments and increase our small community library.
