More Music for my Minuet

Donation protected
Minuet
 - a slow graceful dance in ³/₄ time characterized by forward balancing, bowing, and toe pointing
 - music for or in the rhythm of a minuet
 - my daughter!  The lovely and talented, fun loving, flute playing musician in our little family.  Ms Minuet Salonga

The Start
Last September, my Minuet was given the gift of music and friendship by her mother in the form of membership in the Calgary RoundUp Band www.roundupband.org
The Calgary Round-Up Band  is a junior high school marching band and performing arts ensemble.  Since Minuet was in grade 9 at the time, it would be her first and last year at the Calgary Round-Up Band.  During her 1 year stint, my Minuet got to experience life as part of something larger than herself.  She made new friends and gained new experiences, played in performances, participated in parades - including the annual Calgary Stampede Parade and found a place where she felt she truly belonged.  A second family if you will.

The Sudden Stop
Tragically, early this July, her mother passed away, making this gift of music one of the last gifts my Minuet would ever receive from her mother!

In the few short weeks since this tragedy, my Minuet and her 2 brothers Oscar, Echo and I have had to adjust to this new life.  We are still adjusting, we are still recovering, but together we will get through this and learn to move forward with our new "normal".

Part of this new normal that I am coming to grips with is the fact that my children have now lost their mother, regardless of how estranged my relationship with her had become as a result of our separation and divorce, she was still their mother.  But that chapter in my kids lives has ended and we have no choice but to remember the good times and memories while we struggle to move forward with our lives.

The Hope
During the summer, the flute section of the Calgary Round-Up Band, which Minuet was a part of, made an attempt at raising funds for Minuet to continue on with her musical career and enter into the Calgary Stetson Show Band www.stetsonband.org

The Calgary Stetson Show Band is the natural progression for members of the Calgary Round-Up Band specifically for high school students.

Unfortunately, the group was not able to raise any funds.

At the start of September, it seemed that Minuet's dream of continuing with the Stetsons may have been stalled for a year.  It still may be stalled, but her close friend has stuck by her side keeping Minuet in the loop, sharing the music, sharing the hope and keeping the dream alive.

As of this writing, my Minuet is attending the Calgary Round-Up Band post season party.  I am sure she is having the time of her life.

A New Start?
A week ago, Minuet approached me and asked if there was any way that she "might" be able to get into the Stetsons this year.  She fully  understands how tight our financial situation is at this time and she has offered to help in any way that she can but she also understands that it may not be possible at all to continue with the Stetsons this year, and potentially ever.

Every parent, when faced with this decision will always want to do whatever they can for their kids!  I agreed of course and started contacting the Stetsons Show Band to see if there was any way possible that Minuet could join them this year.

The Stetsons are accommodating and willing to support and help out in any way possible.  Minuet was invited to start attending practices and was there for her first practice last Wednesday.

Presently, I have applied for financial assistance, however we will not know how much assistance the Stetsons will be able to provide as it is dependent of the number of requests they receive and how much money they have for assistance.

The Request
This is the part where I humbly as for your assistance in helping me continue the gift of music that my late ex-wife, Minuet's mother, gave as one of her parting gifts.

The registration fee for the Calgary Stetsons Show Band is $1200.  They require a deposit of $300 by October 1 to be able to "secure" Minuet's spot in the Stetsons.  Time is running short for me BUT I believe that if I can raise at least $100 by October 1, I think I can make make arrangements to pay off the balance slowly throughout the remainder of the season, possibly at $100/month.

The $1200 is for registration only.   There are other costs associated with being in the Stetsons and I imagine there will be deposits for such things as uniforms, trips, etc.

There is also a fundraising commitment of several bingos that I will be attending to help offset other costs, but those are yet to be determined.

I am presently looking for a part-time job to complement my full-time job, though nothing has materialized as of yet.

We will also be attempting bottle drive collections and all the kids are willing to help out with finding odd jobs to help raise the funds required.

I will also be personally posting in Facebook or other social media requesting donations of cash, recyclables or electronics that I can refurbish and resell to raise funds.

I understand that not everybody is able to help financially, however I would appreciate it immensely if you would be able to assist by at least sharing this request through social media as well.

I will definitely keep updating this request as things progress.

I wish to thank you in advance for your help.  Any and every contribution is immensely appreciated!
