More 3D printers for COVID-19

Donation protected

Now is one of the strangest times that we as humans have ever faced.  Over the next coming months, healthcare workers will be overwhelmed with the highest volume of incoming patients ever recorded.   At this same time, frontline workers and healthcare workers are lacking Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to keep themselves from being infected with a potentially lethal pathogen.

I responded to a post on instagram about needing people to help build 3D printers for a print farm dedicated to making PPE for healthcare professionals across Canada.   I stepped up and donated 8 hours over a weekend, building 3D printers for them.

After doing this kind of work, I realized that I could be doing much more to help out on a local and federal level.

I came up with a plan,   to build more 3D printers, and follow the success of Colin and his team at Linus Tech Tips, by using them as a guide, I would be able to facilitate a similar success

I asked the local government if there was any kind of funding set aside for businesses to re-tool themselves to help produce equipment desperately needed for front line workers and unfortunately received no response.

So now, I’m looking for funding from you.
I am not sure if what I’m doing will help you directly, or your friends, or your family.
But it might keep essential workers safe enough that they can continue to be heroes of our community.

In order to maintain transparency with how funds will be allocated / spent during the course of this project, I have setup a small public budget for people to view:

Public Budget for PPE Units for Frontline Workers

We are starting by only asking for a quarter of our proposed budget at $2,500, from there we can manage the load of our initial build followed up with reports back to the community.

Over the coming weeks, we will publish photos and videos of our progress.

Future goals:
If we do end up making our goal, and surpassing it, additional funds will be set aside for laser cutters and sterilization equipment needed to create ready-to-use PPE for frontline workers.  Our ultimate goal in the end would be to use open source plans to make ventilators used in hospitals.
