Morales Bros Birthday Fundraiser

Donation protected
We're proud to share that Nico and Santi will be donating their birthdays to charities.  Nico is turning 9 years old, every day growing more curious and thoughtful about the world. Santiago is turning 3, already mimicking his big brothers in everything but size. Instead of asking for any toys, clothes, or gift cards, they will be raising money and donating 100% to charity. Needless to say, this has been a trying year for our community and country. Between natural disasters and man-made crises, the need to help our fellow Americans has never been more urgent.

Nico will be donating all money raised to United We Dream. United We Dream is the largest immigrant youth-led organization in the nation. Among the many services and resources they provide for immigrants, they work to stop the deportation of DREAMers and keep families together.

Santiago will be donating all money raised to the Hispanic Federation UNIDOS  Disaster Relief & Recovery Program, where 100% of contributions help the immediate and long-term recovery needs of children, families, and communities in distress from the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria.

Both charities are very personal to us. Following the Nicaraguan Revolution in the 1970's, our families immigrated to the United States. Our parents worked hard, persevered through challenging times, and provided us the opportunity to receive an American education. 35+ years later, here we are, American citizens, raising our children and now giving them opportunities we never had, just as our parents had before us. So now we have a choice, do we proclaim "Mission Accomplished" and worry about only ourselves? Or do we look to those in need, those who are in the situation we were in 35 years ago?

We sat the boys down, and explained this to them. We gave them the choice: Star Wars toys, Battlebots, LEGOs, T-shirts, and maybe some pajamas or do you take the cost of these gifts, and give that money to people who need it in order to help them have the opportunities that we have now? While having this conversation, Hurricane Maria was devastating Puerto Rico. Our fellow Americans, our fellow Latinos, our friends, were facing a deadly natural disaster and would need all the help it could get. It didn't take the boys more than a few seconds to say "Yes", they would donate their birthdays to these 2 causes (Full Disclosure: Santi is too young to understand, Alex served as his proxy and took the vote for him). We could not have been prouder.

So how does it work? We've set up this GoFundMe account where you can donate directly to their birthday gift charity fund.  We will split the proceeds exactly 50%. Each charity gets 50% of the total amount raised by October 31. I'll post the receipts on this page when the donations are made.

We are blessed to have family and friends such as yourselves. Whatever amount raised may not change the world, but it may change a life.
