Moraine Valley Mutual Aid Network
Donation protected
What was a small seed of an idea to help our colleagues in need has blossomed into the Moraine Valley Mutual Aid Network. During the last couple months or so, we have witnessed those who we work with side by side at the college be negatively affected by COVID 19 and the resulting quarantine of all. The subsequent hours cut, furloughs, overall income loss has caused many among us to struggle with meeting basic needs.
We, like many of you, have felt helpless to assist those who have been more profoundly affected than we have during this trying situation. In the spirit of gratitude for our many blessings, we formed a “squad” of four women, Merri, Tish, Teresa & Michelle, from different divisions across campus to do what we can to make even a small difference.
The Moraine Valley Mutual Aid Network is not a college sanctioned program; however, whether we are full-time or part-time faculty, administration or support staff, we all share a common goal of supporting our students. It is difficult to fulfill that goal when our own family is in need. This is where we need you to help further “sow the seeds of kindness and compassion”.
We have already had requests based on our initial outreach, but we would like to make it easier and more transparent for all parties involved to donate financially. We are attempting to raise a starting goal of $5000 to help our colleagues in financial need. Monies donated through GoFundMe will be dispersed to the bank accounts of those from our community who have made confidential requests.
Perhaps you are willing to donate part of your “entertainment and fun” budget not used due to the stay at home order. Maybe it is the monthly sum of the coffee you were normally buying on your way to work. Any amount, big or small, will help.
The beauty of working at such a caring institution is that we can lean on each other when we need to.
If you personally are in need of assistance, please submit a confidential request here .
Thank you for taking the time to read through this and for your consideration. Be safe and take care of yourselves and one another.
