Moose's Life-Saving Surgery Fund

December 23rd started out as a normal day for Moose. He waited by the door until Gary told him, “Okay, time to go. Load up, Moose!” He was secured in his kennel and ready to go do his favorite thing…hunt! He had the best day hunting pheasants. After the long drive home, he rested in his crate in our living room until I (Alicia) got home from work. I gave him his dinner (if you know Moose, you know it’s his favorite part of the day). Moose didn’t finish his dinner, which was very unlike him. He laid around, not wanting to do anything but sleep. I figured he hunted all day and surely he’s exhausted. By the time Gary got home from work around 8:30 pm, Moose’s physical condition started to deteriorate. He began to dry heave, became very lethargic, drooled, and paced from his discomfort. We were in the car and on our way to an emergency vet in seconds after noticing his huge distended belly.

We took Moose to the Advanced Animal Emergency clinic and we were told his stomach (GVD [gastric dilation-volvulus]) and spleen had flipped. His spleen was so enlarged the vet believed it was a tumor; his spleen was as large as his abdominal cavity. We were told he would have to have life-saving emergency surgery to remove his spleen and correct the placement of his stomach (Gastropexy and Splenectomy) that night.

Of course, this was completely unexpected and extremely costly. We are not the kind of people to ask for help, as we would much rather help others before ourselves. Any help toward Moose’s emergency surgery fees would be so greatly appreciated and greatly help the next few months as he will have to have continued bloodwork and vet appointments through his recovery.

Moose was able to come home today to recover and rest comfortably at home with us.
