Moose's Fight Against Cancer

CrossFit is a unique community, encouraging others to push through those tough workouts and often simultaneously providing comfort and support when life gets rough. One of our own is facing tough life circumstances after being recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer.
Mikla Economy (aka Moose) has been a constant at our gym these past five years, putting in work 4-5 days a week and she’s an indispensable volunteer at the Festivus Games Competitions we host 2x a year. She continually gives 100%, with little fanfare, while bringing encouragement to those around her. Moose has been described by others as the core of JFive’s 7 o’clock Misfit Crew. She is supportive, a “go to” volunteer, genuine and approachable.
Moose faces one hell of a battle in the months ahead--true to her nature, you will not hear her complain. She is determined to chip away cancer one chemo treatment at a time.
For any of you who know Moose, she is not one to seek help, and she works as hard on the job as she does in the gym. However, as she must focus on beating cancer, there are obvious financial strains due to medical bills and lost work hours. It's been only two months since the diagnosis, and Moose has quickly undergone an MRI, colonoscopy, liver biopsy, CT scan, etc. She has also started two-week cycles of chemo. Doctors are optimistic, as she is young, has no underlying health issues and five years of CrossFit is a plus!
At the same time, Moose has a long road ahead of treatments and surgeries. The stress of hospital bills and the rigorous affects these treatments have on the human body, have made it difficult for Moose to keep above water at times. It is a battle for her life and we are asking our CrossFit Community to rally together to show our support and help raise funds to assist Moose in kicking cancer’s ass!
In addition to any donations we may receive through GoFundMe, JFIVE Crossfit is hosting a fundraising event in the form of a Halloween Costume Contest on October 19th at 7pm! Anyone can participate in the contest, we just ask that a donation of your choosing be made to Moose’s GoFundMe account. In addition to the contest, we will have a Minute to Win It style tournament, a 50/50 drawing, and a silent auction. This will be Potluck style, BYOB, as well as family friendly. 100% of the proceeds from our event will go directly to Moose’s fight against Cancer.
