Tyri 'Mooky'-College and Housing

Donation protected
Friends,

I've had quite a bit of experience in the past few years working with PADS of Lake County and men in crisis and homeless situations.  I can tell you that in most cases, the ones that overcome the odds and break out of the system do it because a group of individuals hear the call of God to invest in them in some way to help them along.  It can be rare to find a young man who has come from a cycle of poverty and is working hard to break out of that cycle.

Tyri ("Mooky") came into our lives around 3 months ago through the pastor and youth pastor at our church (The Chapel).  Mooky is 19 and has been more or less homeless and on his own for several years.  Since the age of 14, he had attended 5 different high schools and lived in countless locations.  He had been staying with an acquaintance in our town and was trying to complete his last class to graduate from high school.  He lost his housing and was in danger of being on the streets or going into the homeless shelter system.

Amy and I decided to take Mooky into our home in late August with the goal of helping him along his journey.  Mooky had goals of finishing high school, getting a job, and enrolling in college to pursue a degree in the medical profession.

In the past 90 days, Mooky has:
- Successfully completed his last class and graduated from Mundelein High School!
- Obtained a full time job at Medline and a 2nd part time job at Target.  He is currently working approx 60 hours per week.
- Enrolled at College of Lake County (CLC) with classes beginning in January

Mooky's 2nd cousin, Devon, also has a job in the Mundelein area and the two are planning to share an apartment, share transportation, and attend CLC together.

A number of you have asked how you can help.  We are sending this link to some of our close friends or to those who we know have a heart to help those who can use a boost.  Your donation isn't tax deductible or to a large well-known charity.  It is an investment in a couple of young men who are defying the odds of their situations and trying to reach their goals.

If you would like to donate, the dollars will come directly to Amy and me to be used for (in priority order):
1) A security deposit on a rental apartment they've found in Round Lake
2) The first month's rent on that apartment
3) Applied toward a cheap car to help them get to work and school.

Please reach out to Amy (847-840-2818) or me (847-691-9477) if you have any questions.

Feel free to share the link for this with any of your friends or contacts - However, please refrain from posting publicly online out of respect for Mooky's privacy and dignity.

Thanks,
Paul and Amy Schorr
