Mood Altering Project Fundraiser

In 2024, to continue to share the message of racism's impact on mental health, my goal is to expand this body of work into a multi-media project for solo exhibitions that will travel regionally and beyond. However, I can't do it without your help! Please donate any amount to further this project's scope and reach!

Project Details: Mood Altering expands my Moody Monday series, a 16-week reflection on my mental health, by incorporating the experiences of African Americans in Cincinnati.  As lawmakers work to skew American history by banning critical race theory from schools and filtering the truth told to the youth, this work reclaims narratives. It preserves history by creating physical and digital artifacts that cannot be easily erased.

Fifty Cincinnatians were interviewed about their experiences with racism, access to mental health care, historical trauma, and mental health stigma in the black community. Twenty-five participants have been featured in the first installation of this work.

Photos and audio capture participants' thoughts during the interview. Participants then created abstract paintings using symbolism representing their feelings. This work combines their photos, interview audio, and artwork to produce new original works of art.

This project will be on display at the Cincinnati Art Museum from July 15th-August 14th, 2022, and will then travel to the Miller Gallery at  Otterbein University in Westerville OH August 22- September 20, 2022.
