The Montoro family has always been a very happy family. We've had our share of ups and downs, but we've always managed to pull through, largely because of the patriarch and matriarch of the family, Raymond and Bernadette Montoro. Raymond and Bernadette are the type of people that teach you the definition of family. They love unconditionally and are always willing to give you the shirt off their backs if needed. However, a lot has occurred this past year that gives us the opportunity to give back to them.
This past March, Bernadette Montoro suffered a seizure that showed up out of nowhere. After being rushed to the hospital, the testing found that she had a multiforme glioblastoma, Stage IV brain cancer. It was a shock to say the least. Then, right after Thanksgiving, Raymond Montoro started having problems eating and sleeping. By Christmas he had lost 40 pounds and was a skeleton of his former self. In the final days of 2019 we found out that he had lymphoma, diffuse large b-cell lymphoma to be exact.
When my husband (their youngest child) and I found out about Bernadette's cancer, I quit my job and we moved our family of 5 into their house so that someone could be with her 24/7. I was already thinking about quitting because of my health (I have fibromylagia), so doing this at the time was no hardship. My husband picked up odd jobs here and there with his father, Raymond (who also had a full time job), so we were able to make ends meet. However, now that our main bread winner, Raymond Montoro, can no longer work because of his cancer, we've become really worried. My husband and I are doing what we can, but with our poor health, we are not able to hold down jobs and take care of his parents at the same time---and his parents most definitely come first. This is why we are asking for help.
We have medical bills that keep piling up thanks to two sets of cancer treatments. Bernadette's cancer has become aggressive enough that we are having to look for treatment options at locations such as Duke and the University of Florida, which requires travel and accommodations for her and at least one other person. We also need money for basics such as food, clothes, and electricity. So please, if you can help give to these two people that always give so much to others, please do. Any donation, no matter how big or how small, is greatly appreciated.
