Montbello 7 Capital Fund

This request is being sent to you from a strong coalition of service organizations providing a wide range of needed services from prevention through intervention serving children to senior citizens within the areas of Montbello, Gateway, and Green Valley Ranch. This collaboration has been formed in recognition of the number of unduplicated families that we all serve. Collectively, all seven (7) grassroots organizations reach over 10,000 families through our work in the food pantry, meal delivery to seniors and persons with disabilities, connecting youth to seniors through respite and SEL activities, mentoring and tutoring, financial literacy workshops, and violence intervention.

The coalition consists of the following organizations:

Athletics & Beyond
Club Z! Tutoring Services Denver/Aurora
Colorado Beautillion-Cotillion, Inc.
Essie Lee Foundation
Families Against Violent Acts (FAVA)
Struggle of Love
100 Men Who Cook

The purpose of this letter is to raise awareness about our goal to raise $1,000,000 and acquire a building in Far Northeast Denver, preferably Montbello or Gateway. Historically, systematic barriers have limited access to capital and facilities for community-led non-profits like ours. COVID-19 and social justice protests across the country have opened the door to help marginalized communities like ours seek equity. Our long-standing organizations have steadfastly provided services to our neighborhood community despite consistently operating on a ‘shoe-string’ budget. Our organizations have been

operating primarily because of private donations and in-kind resources. Some of us have been fortunate to have received grants from the City of Denver and other foundations, but those grant dollars are minuscule, compared to what is needed to meet the needs of the community.

In the past, several of the organizations within our coalition have independently requested capital building support and/or land lease opportunities to expand service capacity and visibility within our community. There have been a few organizations that have been provided buildings with subsidized lease options, yet most of these exist on the North and West side of Denver.

We believe that our organization’s activities and programs are synergized with one another and can do better with preventing service duplication if we were united in a single building with adequate space. Addressing the equity issue, we as a coalition of seven (7) organizations that have consistent service provision to our community, are now requesting an opportunity to be afforded a subsidized building within the Far Northeast area.

Our collective voices will continue to make this request as we know that having a centralized location within our community to address the needs of the underserved youth, elderly, and persons living with disabilities is vital to providing positive outcomes.

We appreciate the opportunity to discuss this further and look forward to your future response to our request.
