Monk’s Memorial Fund

On Monday September 24, our wonderful school horse Monk underwent colic surgery at Tufts Hospital for Large Animals, where they removed a tumor that was wrapped around his small intestine. Monk came through surgery well, but his intestine was badly damaged and a few days later the difficult decision was made to euthanize him.

A good school horse is worth his weight in gold, and “The Monk” has been a valuable and beloved member of the Windswept Farm lesson program for more than 10 years. He worked hard for the Brown Equestrian Team and our IEA Team, and taught countless students to become better, more confident riders. His kind, gentle disposition ensured he was always a barn favorite.

We know what Monk has meant to everyone who had the opportunity to learn from him and enjoy his lovely demeanor. As you can imagine, expenses for his treatment are significant, and we hope that in memory of a grand old man, you will consider making a donation towards his care.

You can contribute online through GoFundMe, and we will also post an envelope at the barn for anyone wishing to donate by cash or check (made out to Michaela’s name). Should donations exceed Monk’s expenses, any extra funds will be kept in a special account for future school horse emergencies.
