Monique Sparks Medical Journey

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Courtney, and I am the daughter of Monique and sister of Eden.  First off,  those of you that have been following us on this medical journey with our mother, we thank you. Mom has been diagnosed with various medical conditions since 2006 and she has been fighting everyday. Please read some of her medical history below if you are unfamiliar with my mom's fight.

Currently I am writing to you from Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, where mom has been admitted for a minimum of 3-5 days for them to monitor her seizures and find some answers on how to move forward from here. She is having between 8-17 seizures a day, which is concerning to doctors and our family. As a family, all we want is to see her healed and be able to live her life normally again as she last did in 2006. Years of medical bills are piled up and this current admittance into the hospital is something that is in no way helping us get out of this financial burden.

The funds from an existing fundraising page have been completely spent towards medical expenses, and we need your help. I am creating this so people will understand what is really going on and how her life has been affected.  She has a sunny disposition, but behind her beautiful smile there are hidden issues that nobody will ever see. Because of her brain tumor and illnesses she experiences forgetfulness, anxiety, exhaustion, and an excessive amount of stress. It breaks my heart to know my mom behind closed doors, when her strong facade is taken down, and I see the tired mother and woman who desperately needs help.

First and foremost we ask for prayer, but all of these medical appointments and treatment expenses are increasing rapidly. Although the costs are high and each month she is riddled with anxiety over rent and bills, we know God is our provider. Even the smallest donation is a huge blessing.

If you would like to donate in a different way, she has a line of bracelets called Sparks Strong. Each bracelet costs $25 and 50% of each sale goes straight to her medical accounts. You can find these bracelets on her website: moniquesparks.com

If you would like to follow her story there is a Facebook page, Sparks Strong, where you can follow her latest updates. Thank you so much for your continued prayers and support.

Medical History:

In 2006 it all began. It started with being sick, and she ended up having 4 organs removed and 3 repaired. A month later she was diagnosed with Graves Disease, which has a high mortality rate. Through prayer and an amazing medical team Monique survived. In 2008, she was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. Her thyroid was "killed" through a nuclear medicine, and she was in isolation for a week. Seizures followed her treatments for these illnesses. A lymph node was removed on her right side by her breast, and they discovered she has Rosai Dorfman Disease. Following this, a full body scan was ordered. The results came in and 3 tumors were found in her neck, and 2 on the right side of her head. She was treated as a cancer patient and went through radiation on her head, but in NC this is not considered "cancer," so no government aid is given and all medical costs come out of pocket. After radiation treatments Monique started to experience severe headaches again. Another brain scan was done and they found a brain tumor. This was diagnosed as a left Posterior Fossa Meningioma. In 2015, she woke up and had began to lose feeling in her left side. As days passed she lost all feeling in her legs, her vision and hearing on her left side, and her speech and swallowing ability. She was placed in an acute care neuro ward for a couple weeks. From there she was put in a nursing home with a rehabilitation team, and she was taught to walk again and she learned how to use the left side of her body again. It was discovered that after her radiation, her brain stem was nipped and late stage brain necrosis had began. Today she still has trouble walking, and cannot feel below her left knee, but she is able to walk without assistance.

After her recent MRI, doctors have found some new issues and concerns in her brain. The tumor is stable, but it is growing. Specialists have explained that if it reaches a certain size that surgery will be a strong option.

Thank you for your prayers, donations and support. We love you from the deepest part of our hearts.
