Monica’s Story
Monica is a vibrant, young woman…daughter, sister, wife, mother, friends to many, and my special daughter-in-law. Ben and her wedding was beautiful, she gave birth to two beautiful, healthy boys. It seemed she was on her way to living an idyllic life surrounded by family and friends.

But a devastating upheaval hit the family March three years ago. My youngest grandson contracted meningitis. We nearly lost him. This infection left him with irreversible brain damage and cerebral palsy. You can read his story at www.gofundme.com/cainschnose. Monica left her career and quit her job to care for him and his older brother fulltime.

During their recent annual family medical check-up, the doctors told her she had breast cancer. Not, “we see something that will need to have more test,” but “let’s get you scheduled with a surgeon and plastic surgeon right away.” Diagnosis: invasive ductal carcinoma. She is at Stage 2, Level B. At this time, she is still doing additional testing to see how far it has spread. The doctors are moving fast though. They’ve already started a plan of attack. Chemotherapy, surgery and radiation treatment. Pending results, the doctors may recommend a double mastectomy. Also, since she’s so young, she may tolerate having plastic surgery at the same time. She’s met with an oncologist and could start chemo tomorrow. Chemo will take 5 months, the whole treatment process, at least a year.

You can’t imagine the tailspin this has put the family in. How will she be able to take care of her family during this, care for her special needs son, all the while focusing on battling for her life? Every one of us has assured her we will be there for Dante, Cain and especially her. That we all can do. But it’s the medical bills that put a whole new scare into the situation. Cain’s medical bills are daunting in itself, now more medical bills will be coming. Anyone in this world should not be denied lifesaving treatment because of financial hardship. It is my hope to help relieve this fearful burden for Monica and Ben. Your donations to Monica’s medical fund will help in this fight for her life. Thank you…thank you…thank you!
