On Friday, March 29th, 2024, I received a call from my grandma stating that my mother was found with no pulse and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

On Thursday the 28th, my mom had called 911 for help because she was having a hard time breathing. She was given a breathing treatment and oxygen and we assume she felt better so did not go to hospital. On Friday morning, the 29th, she had called again with trouble breathing. By time the ambulance got there she had collapsed. The EMT’s started cpr right away. They eventually was able to get her pulse back. However it was around 20 minutes of CPR and having to be shocked once.

Once she was at the hospital they did a number of tests. She was placed on a ventilator for breathing. They did a CT scan, eeg, and numerous other ones. The first CT scan came back normal. EEG came back with her having seizures. Over the course of the 29/30 there were signs of improvement like her Bp and pulse being strong but the nurses said there were like one step forward two back. They wanted to do an MRI but the machine was broke. So we had to wait for that to be fixed.

Then on Sunday, the 31st, the MRI machine still wasn’t fixed so the doctors came back and said they wanted to do another CT scan to see if it would show anything further. She was showing signs of an anoxic brain injury.

Once these CT RESULTS came back, it had showed that there was severe irreversible brain damage. The brain had swelling to it. The doctors said that she would need a trach and Pic line and she would be in a vegetable state. Or we could let her go with comfort and peacefully.

My family decided the best option for her was to let her go peacefully. Being she was an organ donor, we have to be on the time of the Iowa donor network. With that being said, Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024, we will be removing life support and letting my mom finally be at peace.

My family as a whole are asking help with donations to help with funeral cost, cost to help with the celebration of life, and any extra will go to help with anything the family may need. Thank you for everything rather it be a donation, a share of this, or even a prayer or kind words in this time of grief.
