Mongol Rally 2020

Donation protected
Hello World! We're taking part in a crazy 30,700 km road trip, ALL to raise money for charity and to have an AMAZING adventure, and we need YOUR help to get started on this journey.

What is the Mongol Rally? The Mongol Rally is a charity event and one of the greatest motoring adventures in the world.

The Mongol Rally takes place over 16,000 km across mountains, desert and steppe of Europe and Asia each summer. There’s no backup, no support and no set route; just our team, fellow adventurists and a tiny 1.2-litre engine car.

Pretty much if nothing goes wrong, everything has gone wrong on the journey.

The Mongol Rally is about getting lost, using your long-neglected wits, raising tons of cash for charity and scraping into the finish line with a destroyed vehicle and a wild grin on your face.

Neither our car nor our lives will ever be the same again.

Our team will start in London, England and head off to Ulan-Ude, Russia via Prague, Czechia while crossing through 37 countries and two continents.

Our team will consist of 3 students, currently living all over the world to finish up their studies.

Are there rules involved? YES. There are only three rules on the Rally:

Each team can take a small vehicle of 1.2 litres or less
Each team is entirely on their own — No support from the Mongol Rally organisation.
Each team has to raise a minimum of £1000 ($1250) for charity.

Additionally, you have to start in Prague, Czechia (we start in London, England) and finish in Ulan-Ude, Russia. Any route from Prague to Ulan-Ude is entirely up to the individual team.

The Mongol Rally is a journey we have been planning for nearly two years and is going to be an adventure unlike any other. Getting as much support as possible will help us not only achieve our goal of taking part in the Mongol Rally but will also contribute to several charity organisations that we have chosen.

What charities are you donating to?
To take part in the Mongol Rally, each team has to contribute at least £1000 or $1250 towards charity. At least £500 of those contributions have to be donated directly to the Mongol Rally's official charity, Cool Earth.

Cool Earth is an environmental charity that works in partnership with indigenous communities. The charity only protects rainforest that without intervention will be destroyed within the next 18 months. Cool Earth works strategically, protecting the forest that acts as a barrier to a broader landscape. Through working with local people, Cool Earth makes sure conservation goes hand in hand with better livelihoods. To learn more about Cool Earth, check out their website at this link: https://www.coolearth.org/

Our team will be donating to Cool Earth, but in addition to that, we want to contribute to ILGA Europe and Central Asia as well.

In more than half of the countries that we are going to on the Mongol Rally, 24 nations out of 42 are worsening in conditions for LGBTQ+ people. While every country we are visiting still lacks in rights for LGBTQ+ individuals. LGBTQ+ individuals in many of these nations have little to no rights including, open public discrimination, criminalisation of individuals leading to imprisonment or death, as well as, worsening societal opinions on the LGBTQ+ community. Our team wants to give back to the nations that we are visiting and donate to, ILGA Europe and Central Asia, that helps LGBTQ+ individuals on the ground in the countries we are visiting. Our goal is to raise at least $5000 towards assisting LGBTQ+ activists to make a change in these countries. ILGA-Europe and Central Asia are an independent, international non-governmental umbrella organisation bringing together nearly 600 organisations from 54 countries in Europe and Central Asia. ILGA-Europe and Central Asia are a driving force for political, legal and social change in Europe and Central Asia. ILGA's vision is of a world where dignity, freedoms and full enjoyment of human rights are protected and ensured to everyone regardless of their actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics. Why does the Mongol Rally cost so much?
The Mongol Rally is upwards $25,000 because of many factors on our 9-week journey. Some of the expenses that go into this calculation are:

Mongol Rally Entry Fee: $900 per team
Deposit: $1200 per team
Visa Costs: ($3200 total
Charity Money (our minimum goal): $5000
Petrol (approximate): $3000
Car expenses (car, tolls, insurance, etc.): $3000
Supplies (camping gear, car repair kits, car storage, travel gear, etc.): $2000
Accommodation: $2000
Food: $1200
Insurance: $1000
Miscellaneous (car ferry, permits, etc.): $2500

Additionally, if we are unable to raise the funds necessary to make our journey happen, any money we have received towards our journey will be split between both of our chosen charities and donated directly to them.

This is a little bit on the Mongol Rally and the journey that we are taking part in. Every contribution we get helps to reduce this amount tremendously and we appreciate anything you can donate towards us completing this journey. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for contributing towards our journey. We will be posting updates as they come and for more information on our journey and to learn more about the team members involved on this journey, please check out our official website: https://www.horriblyawsm.com/mongolrally20
