Chance's surgery funds. Please help

Our 13 year old son, Chance, had to have surgery to begin repair and reconstruction of his sinuses. Chance broke his nose when he was 4 years old. At the time we didn't know it had broken because other than the cut that required 5 stitches, the damage wasn't visible at the time. As he grew his septum became severely deviated and he began to have serious health issues and breathing problems until we couldn't put surgery off any longer. On July 12, 2017, Chance had part 1 of a two part procedure. There was severe blockage and significant infection. Stents were placed in his sinuses which were supposed to come out during part 2 on July 26th.

On July 24, 2017, my husband LaRue lost his job of 18 years with GE Appliances. He was involved in a serious traumatic accident on March 30. We were blindsided by the termination 2 days before Chance's second surgery. It wasn't a surgery we could put off. He had medical appliances in his sinus cavities that HAD to be removed on schedule. ALL of our health insurance and benefits were with LaRue. The company would not give us 2 more days so that Chance's surgery would be covered. (We had already met our deductible and out-of-pocket and our insurance was paying 100%, but GE would not date the termination to take effect on the 27th so that the surgery would be covered.) We were told that since a premium was coming out of LaRue's final check that Friday that we had insurance for the remainder of the week. We had to proceed with the surgery as planned. Today we were told that his coverage stopped on July 24th and the only way to cover Chance's surgery from last week was to purchase at least one month of COBRA at a cost of $1600.  However, Chance has meds that we need covered for at least two months.

I never, ever imagined myself begging on gofundme, but I don't care about my pride when it concerns my son. Please help if you feel led so that we can get Chance's surgery covered retroactively. We had no warning about LaRue's termination. After 18 years we thought,  and were led to believe, his status would be decided after everything was settled. We certainly were not prepared to lose all of our coverage two days before Chance's surgery.  LaRue had been on administrative leave since the accident and we were already struggling. But we were making it one day at a time because Chance's medical was covered.

Our son has Asperger's and he has come so far due to all the therapies, meds and services we had through GE. Now all of that is gone and along with it, we are left with one hundred percent of the costs for a surgery we had no choice but to go forward with.

Please help. I don't know where else to turn. LaRue is looking for work, taking odd jobs, and has gotten on with the school system as a bus monitor. That position comes with benefits but those will not take effect until October 1, but  that will do nothing to cover the surgery Chance had to have. The COBRA premium is more than I even make in a month but it is cheaper than the cost of Chance's surgery and meds if we don't extend our insurance.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Those of you that know us, know how hard LaRue works and how honest he is. The entire situation has been a nightmare but before, at least, it didn't have to affect Chance's health. If you can help in any way to help us make two COBRA payments, our family would be eternally grateful. Thank you.
