Monet's Recovery

Donation protected
My daughter Monet Angel Shaw (11) was viciously attacked by a pit bull on Saturday, June 17, 2017 around 1:30 pm. She just finished getting her hair braided from her cousin for her 5th grade graduation on June 20th. She called her dad to come pick her up and told him she was walking down the street with her great aunt to her great aunt's friend's house where the pit bull somehow got out the house and attacked Monet. He was biting and dragging her by the arm and a neighbor came across the street hitting the dog with a shovel. The dog let go then went around her great aunt and started dragging Monet by her feet. Her great aunt and friend were able to get the dog off again and shield Monet from the dog. Monet's dad pulled up as they shielded her and seen the dog attacking my aunt (her great aunt). He was able to pick Monet up and put her in his car away from the dog when he seen her arm was hanging off. My aunt got in the car and he drove up 2 blocks and met the ambulance that was called to get my daughter. Monet was rushed to St. John hospital where she was sedated and then transferred her to Children's Hospital. She underwent a 6 hr surgery to fix the broken bone (she now has a plate and screws in her arm close to her shoulder), and try to get blood flowing back into her left arm as the dog mangled most her her arteries and muscles (biceps & triceps). They were able to take a vein from her thigh and place into her arm, now she has a strong pulse and blood flowing steadily throughout the arm. She has both feet stitched up and bandaged so that they can heal as well. Tuesday she had surgery to clean the bone the dog broke and scrap debris from it (the dog's teeth marks were still in her bone) so she won't have an infection & to check her nerves as they were exposed from the dog bite. Her nerves are in tact but somewhat damaged, and it may be about 4-6 weeks before she can actually move her fingers or feel any sensation.  Friday she is going into surgery to take the muscle from her side (swimmers muscle) to put into her arm and skin from her thigh to close up the rest of her arm.
Monet is on a long road to recovery but she is a strong little lady and she has lots of supporters and prayers throughout this whole ordeal.
If you would like to help donate any funds towards her medical finances, please do so. We thank you all in advance!
