My sister/mom/auntie is sick. We found out about 5 months ago that she has cancer. We as a family have been struggling to keep it together because what would our lives be like without her? We don’t want to know.

We as a family have watched my sister/mom/auntie deteriorate medically, especially these past two years. It has been the hardest thing to see her in this state. I don’t think we can even count how many times she has been in and out of the hospital. She just kept getting sick. Then she would become septic over and over again. One of the times she went into septic shock earlier this year and we were so close to losing her. She had to be put into intensive care after that for a month.

After going into septic shock, she had to relearn how to walk, how to use her hands, etc. We did see some improvements. We were all so excited and happy. Then we started noticing her regressing and we didn’t know what was happening. I was at the hospital every day advocating for my sister. I finally got the doctors to listen and check if she had cancer. It came back that she did have cancer. Since then, she has been fighting hard. She is on chemo, which is awful on your body. She is bedridden, which makes us sad that life is continuing and she can’t participate in any of it.

With that being said, I know that some of you have had to go through a similar experience with a loved one who is terminally ill and feeling like there is nothing you can do, especially when it comes to insurance. Her insurance doesn’t cover much, only her doctor's visits. So, all of her medical bills are continuing to pile up.
