<div>As most of you know our dear friend, Kim, has been fighting Long Covid since March of 2020. This has caused a plethora of problems including hypertension, difficulty breathing, tachycardia, blood clots, never-ending rounds of bronchitis and pneumonia, along with many complications. Her medical frailty has increased since summer 2023, with her oxygen levels dipping to dangerous levels. She now is on daily supplemental oxygen. Kim suffers from severe chest pain resulting in multiple ER trips. She has scarring and opacities in her left lung and is currently healing from a nasty esophageal infection. It was discovered this month that Kim has a small hole in her heart (called a ‘patent foramen ovale’). This caused a septal infarct, heart damage, debilitating migraines, extreme fatigue, severe neck pain, and arm pain in her left arm causing permanent numbness in her thumb. She also has tachycardia, high blood pressure, and poor circulation that puts her at high risk for a heart attack or stroke. Her quality of life has significantly diminished and she is in constant fear of her health and future.

<div>Kim will be 3 years sober in February, and has fought so hard for the life she is living. If you know her, you know she continually gives to others in need. She has dedicated the last 2 years of her life helping others achieve sobriety in her work as a recovery coach at Michigan Works! Unfortunately, due to her failing health she in unable to work. Now she needs OUR help!

<div>Kim will need heart surgery and ongoing care to correct these medical issues. There are a couple different options on the table and her care team is working to figure out the best course of action. We will keep this thread updated during the process.

<div>Kim is a single mom of 2 beautiful children - Sophia(13) and Remy (8) and fur momma to 3 beloved cats. She pays a high rent to live in Traverse City, and also has utilities, food, living expenses, out of pocket medical expenses, and fuel costs to get to Ann Arbor for specialist appointments.
