Mom and Dad's Hurricane Harvey Aid
I really appreciate you all finding time to read my parents story, and for considering helping our family raise the funds needed to start repairing the damage to their home, caused by Hurricane Harvey in the recent weeks. My name is Sandra Menifee, I grew up in Baytown, TX, and now live in Atlanta, GA. As you all know, Harvey dumped torrential rain on Houston Texas, then continued to dump heavy rain on surrounding regions, including Baytown Texas. Our hearts go out to all the affected families, pets too.
Like our neighbors in Houston, the unthinkable happened to family and friends in Baytown; disastrous flooding and power outages. My mom and dad, Mrs. Minnie and Mr. Vernon Menifee, live in Baytown, located east of Houston. In our home, my parents have raised 3 generations of Menifee (Menefee) and Glass family members. They were in shock to see their home and community flooded. We thank God that there were brave souls there to rescue the community. Besides the house being flooded, the roof sustained water-damage. With my mom’s recent back surgery, I'm glad they vacated the house before the floods came in. My 85-year-old dad would have struggled to get them to safety.
In Atlanta, we found out the unthinkable happened in Baytown. I eventually could get a call out to confirm my parents, siblings, and friends were safe. (So thankful) I have called my mom every day, and she repeats, "I didn't know it would flood like this". Over and over, she can't believe this happened. I thank God, my siblings and nephews are there to help mom and dad with getting local help and mobility. My brother and sisters are gutting the house of all water-damaged possessions and cutting-out water soaked walls and ceilings. I talked to my sister, and she said there was the smell of mold yards away as they enter the house.
Immediate donations are welcomed. With the help of these funds, my parents will be able to start repairs on their home, replace lost possessions, and move back home sooner rather than later. Recent assessments reveal my parents home will need foundation repair, insulation and sheet rock replaced, paint and mold protection, roof repair, electrical repair, and beds; on the short list.
