Wendy Anne Coleman, my wonderful mother, has been diagnosed with cancer for the second time now. She is 58 years old. She was diagnosed with Anal Cancer in early September of 2015. She went through a grueling chemo and radiation program, coming out on top to beat it. It wasn't an easy time for her but she fought hard and by the grace of god she came out on top.
One day early this September (2018), my mother's appendix burst. She went to the hospital where they did immediate surgery to extract her appendix. While taking out her appendix, they noticed a lump. They took a biopsy of it and it turned out to be Appendiceal Carcinoma. It is a rare cancer that less than 1,000 people are diagnosed with in the U.S. each year.
She didnt really know how to tell me and my brother. It crushed us the first time in 2015 and she knew this one was going to hurt even worse. We live about 2 hours away from her and she came down one weekend (which was not unusual). We went out to dinner her last night there and while sitting at the table it got eerily silent. She was just looking into my eyes then would switch to my brothers. For some reason we knew what was coming. We knew that the next few words would be devastating. And boy were they. I just sat there with tears in my eyes, overwhelmed with thoughts I never wanted face again. It just sucks.
This cancer is rare. Which also means the methods of treatment are different... My mother has been going through three months of chemo. She is taking literally one of the strongest concoctions they've got. She has been going once every two weeks, 5 hour sessions. Then, she takes a pump home for two days that has more chemo in it. She gets fluids 2 times throught the week and potassium the last few sessions as well. She is currently about to go to the last session of this chemo before she goes for CT scans. If CT scans come out progressively, she will end up getting surgery. Now, when they do surgery they will perform
Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). Hot Chemo for short. This is where they heat up a chemo liquid and pour it into the cavity. They then leave it for up to 3 hours and wash it out. The surgery and side effects will have her out of work anywhere from 3-6 months if it goes smoothly.
My mother is a fighter. She is a strong woman. She is a woman of faith and she knows that the lord is looking down upon her. She knows god has a plan for each and every one of us. If you can't give anything of monetary value , please stop and take a second out of your day to throw a prayer up for my mom. My family and I would greatly appreciate it. God bless.
