I'm a new mom to a wonderful little boy. As a not so young mom, I know I need to think of my child future, because chances are I will be old when he will still be a young man. More pressing, I also know that his future is far from guaranteed.

On September 24th, students took to the streets in Canada to request a solid engagement from governments to safeguard their futures with their policies. I read reactions online, a lot of which were not kind, as it often goes with the Internet. Other reactions went as far as stating that the kinder thing to do at this point is to simply not have children. This led me to ask myself if we, the adults of our time, were not abandoning our youth without even putting a fight.

I couldn't say it better than a fellow Internet denizen :

« We must try, with them, for the love of life and to show these children that the older generations have not abandoned them. It is healing for them and us when we hear and honor their fear, anger, sadness and their rightful determination to save themselves. Share our sincere remorse and give our reparations. if they ask us to show up for them, we damn well better show up. »

I think parents must carry their children, not the other way around. As such, in the month of October, I will put my five-months old son in his carrier and will hit the trails around the National Capital Area to raise funds for the International Conservation Fund of Canada, a highly trustworthy organization that conserves nature in the tropics and other priority areas in Latin America, Africa and Asia. They have projects in 31 countries and work with experienced local field partners.

My goal is to hike a total of 100 km with my son during that month. I will document my progress and will give highlights of the various trails we will hike.

I thank you in advance for your support in this small personal effort to safeguard our children future.
