Thank you for stopping by my GoFundMe Account for my first DTS with Youth With A Mission, or YWAM.
What is YWAM and a DTS? YWAM was founded in 1960, and is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups, and traditions dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. They unite in a common purpose "to know God and to make Him known," and work in more than 1,100 locations in over 180 countries. YWAM's foundational course is called Discipleship Training School (DTS). DTS equips Christians to serve others in many different ways with other students from all over the world. This programs is 6 months and consists of 2 parts: lecture phase and outreach phase.
Lecture Phase: Training consists of staff and visiting speakers teaching on topics such as evangelism, world missions, spiritual warfare, Bible study, prayer, worship, Biblical counseling, relationships, and Christian identitiy and perspectives. Students attend lecture seminars, are involved in studies, small groups, local outreaches, community service projects, share in work responsibilites and receive personal discipleship and counseling. My discipleship training site is near the town of Paia on the island of Maui.
Outreach Phase: Following the discipleship training, I will be assigned to a 3 month outreach mission service with a small team of staff and students at one of YWAM's sites in Southeast Asia, such as Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nepal, or India. Our team will be doing hands-on mission work which may include street evangelism, counseling, children ministries, first aid/medical assistance, teaching, construction, and church/community service projects.
How can you help??
Well, the first way you can help me is through your prayers. I have witnessed the effects of people's prayers on the many mission trips I have been on, as well as in my daily life. Many things can be accomplished through simply submitting requests to the Lord. Please pray specifically for my spiritual and emotional readiness, the preparation of my heart and the hearts of the people who I will encounter while I am in training and on the mission field, and for meeting the financial needs of this YWAM experience.
The second way is through financial support. The estimated total cost of the 6 month YWAM journey is $9,300, which will cover lodging, transportation, and food for the entire 6 months. I currently have a part-time job at my university, which I will contribute a minimum of 25% of each paycheck towards YWAM. Please consider a financial contribution in whatever amount you may feel led to give, which will bring me one step closer to my journey with YWAM. Any contribution is greatly appreciated! My start date is January 4th and I am extremely humbled and honored by this new opportunity that God has given me. I have prayed for many months about this decision and could not be more thrilled. I cannot wait to see all that the Lord is going to do in those 6 months. He is already working and proving His immense faithfulness through this process and I have not even started the program yet.
