Molly's Apartment Fire
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Molly -- Some of you know me well, some of you probably don't (either way, thanks for reading this). I recently graduated from American University and now work in Washington, DC. Until recently, I was living with two roommates in an apartment we rented together.
Here's What Happened
Early Saturday morning, on January 13, we had a fire in our apartment building. Fire filled one of our rooms and everything burned. We escaped and called 911, but most of our belongings were either incinerated or melted.
Those that didn't burn were damaged by smoke and high pressure water hoses. When we returned, the rooms were completely blackened and the windows shattered.
Luckily, I was able to later retrieve my laptop and backpack, which had been shut in my closet. We were also able to rescue our adorable cat.
For context, the pictures below were rooms that were not empty like this before the fire -- it's just that the stuff inside them vaporized in the flames...
How You Can Help
I am so lucky to have survived this (and that my cat and roommates are ok!) and I now need a little help. Any donation is hugely appreciated -- I will send thank you notes if you are comfortable giving me your address!
Donations will be used to pay for a security deposit on a new apartment and settlement fees for terminating our lease. I'm also trying to replace my clothes, bedding, and luggage that was lost.
Thank You
Thank you for taking the time to read this! Any donation is appreciated...so is the kindness and generosity of the people that have already reached out to me in various ways.
If you have any questions, I am happy to answer them. You can contact me on Facebook or through my twitter, @mols_of_america.
Donations aside, the people I know have been wonderful and I am so grateful for your support and understanding. <3
